Hi everyone
I havent been "offically" diagnosed with PCOS...YET, but my Ob/gyn is 99% sure I have it. He just wants the blood test results back before we move forward. Let me give you a little background to my situation.
When I was a teenager I was "diagnosed" (and I used that term loosely, because I never was tested, just the MD's opinion) with a hormonal imbalance. I also have VERY BAD cystic nodular acne. I ended up taking acutane for a year to treat that. I never had problems with my cycle. It always went a little longer than most (32-39 days), but it always came. I got married in august of 2006 and we tried for a baby right away. I got pregnant in september and we now have an amazing 2 year old little boy. Right after I had my son, I started having migraines. I dont ever get headaches, so for me to have a migraine was insane! I was getting them 3 times a week a least and they would knock me out for a whole day, even with medication. I spent many days in the ER trying to get an answer why I am having migraines all of a sudden. After my son turned one, my periods starting getting irregular and very light. I would have 1 every 3 months, then 2 months in a row, then skip a month...no rhyme or reason to them. When I did get my period it was so light it was more annoying than anything. Basically spotting for 3 days. I thought it was because I was overweight. I was 5'6" and I weighed in at 205lbs. So I decided to go on a diet and I lost 40 so far. My cycles did not get any better. So far i've only had 6 periods in the last 12 months. I was really starting to think I was loosing my mind! I felt like my body was shutting down and it scared me. Im only 27! I was just at the ob/gyn yesterday and after explaining my symptoms and my history, he thinks I have PCOS. He gave me an Rx for some bloodwork, but I have to wait til my next period to have that done. (lord only knows when that will be!)
I just feel so relieved to know that im not going insane and there might really be a reason as to why im having all these issues. Im glad to know that there is a place that women who have this can share what they're going thru.
Liz
