I am new to this site and somewhat new to diagnosis. My ob gyn seems to be so laid back with regards to me and my treatment. I know that I am the only one I can really count on who will be proactive with regards to my health which brings me to this question... WHAT NOW??? What do I do? What should I expect with regards to symptoms? What avenues can I explore, medically, with regards to helping myself? I want to help my doctor make decisions for my treatment (sounds ridiculous, doesnt it?) Or, is there a different kind of doctor I should see if this one doesn't shape up? (Honestly...he practically laughs at my concerns) I work in the medical profession and have been scared straight by the harmfull results of doctors with this sort of attitude.
Welcome to SC! Yes, you can find a doc who will take you seriously, but some Cysters have to look a good while before they find a knowledgeable PCOS doc. Endocrinologists specialize in hormones, so they would be better with PCOS/diabetes. My gyn is certified in endocrinology, but is practicing as a gyn/ob. He gave me a battery of tests and put me on Metformin for insulin resistance. He tested my hormone levels and for other conditions that could have the same symptoms as PCOS (hyperthyroid, cushings, etc.). My Mom's doc is a GP and he doesnt' take her seriously at all, and neither does her gyn. It's very frustrating, since she is headed for diabetes.
