Unhappy New - What time should I take it?

Hi everyone! I'm new here and have been giving a prescription for Metformin. A dermatologist PA prescribed it when I went to see her for hair loss. I have had PCOS for years, unfortunately.

I will admit that after reading about it for the past couple of weeks, I'm petrified to take it! Absolutely petrified about the side effects. I already have a somewhat sensitive stomach, but I also adore my carbs. I'm also terrified that my hair loss will get worse. I am already takening a B12 supplement.

My question for you is what time would be the best for me to take the medicine? I'm going to actually get the prescription filled today. I believe it says to take it after noon.

My problem is that my schedule is really odd. Monday-Friday, I am awake from about 2:30 pm until about 6:30 am (sometimes earlier). (I work evenings.) I usually eat at about 7:30 pm, 12:30 am, and 4:00 am. On the weekends, I have a much more normal sleep schedule.

I've also heard that it is better to take it at night, but when would that be for me, and then would I switch times on the weekend? Argh. I'm just really scared to be starting this, and would appreciate any advice! Thank you!

I take mine around 830 pm because it is about 2 hours after I eat dinner (my biggest meal of the day) and 3-4 hours before I go to bed.
this is the only time that works for me to avoid all the stomach issues.

it is different for everyone though.

basically its just trial and error
I had to take it a bunch of different times before I found the best time

good luck

Calliope I'd recommend starting it on a day you have no real outside obligations, just in case you are sensitive to it!! As long as I take my dose with a meal, I seem to be fine - but I take my nightly dose right before bed even though dinner is usually a few hours earlier.

Are you on the extended release by chance? Some of us have better luck with that.
