We have adopted from China and we are in the homestudy for #3 too.
At the homestudy just be yourself and things will go great. They'll ask questions like why did you choose China, how will you incorporate the Chinese culture in your lives, etc...
The dossier is a lot of paperwork (and we have to do it all over again now!) but oh so worth it.
If you have any questions about China just let me know. What agency are you using?

We're using Bethany. We 're getting the dossier paperwork on Wed. Can you give me a hint on what to expect?
Not too worried about the homestudy...we have one child, we've baby proofed our house, we don't drink excessively, we don't do drugs or smoke or have criminal backgrounds...what could they possibly find, right?!
I do admit, it is a little galling to have to go through all that though. I think we're good parents.

Sorry I didn't see your message sooner. Did you get your homestudy & dossier info yesterday? Let me know if you still have ?'s but it's pretty straight forward.
We have our second homestudy appt. tonight and it's my night to go solo. We may try to squeeze DH in there too so we can cut our homestudy visits down by one. I would think we can have shorter appointments since we are using the same S/W and she knows us pretty well!
yes we did - it wasn't as much as I thought we would need. The only part that overwhelmed me was the notary part - like for the dr and police etc...but dh seems to think that by nature of their business, they will have notary on staff. We'll see. We'll just get it donw cause it has to, right?!
We have 2 more visits - one at their office and one at our house. She's going to do the individual part on the same visit. one of us will just leave for awhile.

Sounds great! It does seem like an awful lot of paperwork but it goes pretty smoothly, usually. My SIL is a notary but when I don't feel like driving the 1/2 hour to see her I just go to our Town Hall and the clerk there is a notary. We have gotten to know her well!
The longest part after the homestudy is completed will be the USCIS. I dread that wait!
Who knows, when all is said and done we could be "DTC" (Dossier To China) at the same time. That'd be a hoot! There are great yahoo message groups set up online. You join up once you are DTC and can really bond with other families during the wait.
Also, when you're ready you can join APC which is a yahoo group for adoptive parents of Chinse children. This site can be a bit daunting and I suggest you sign up for "no email" because there are hundreds per day. Much easier to just visit the site.
There is so much info out there and so many groups to join. It's amazing. I'm a bit more laid back this time around, though, and that's probably good for my blood pressure !!
I am not/have not done China, but am already looking into it for once DH and I reach age 30. I am replying because DH and I are also using Bethany, we are doing domestic this time around. I have looked into international and am really drawn to China. I hnave already decided that once we both turn 30 (March 1, 2008), we will go to China for our next child. I am just so excited to hear of someone else who is using Bethany!!!
We have just begun the process and have turned in our prelim and formal applications and are in the process of filling out the MASS of paperwork to begin our homestudy. I hope that all goes well for you.
Best of luck,
Pam
