Unhappy new and worried

so i was just told by my doctor on tuesday that i have pcos and i'm only 20, my doctore kept going on about putting me on birth control and such but i know that birth control can lessen your fertility anyway so i really don't want to go on it. i mean i'm not really trying to get pregnant right now but i want to in the next couple of years and with this stupid pcos its going to make it even harder. i'm just really depressed at the thought of not getting pregnant. any suggestions on how to improve the odds?

Red face I know how you feel!

Welcome
I know exactly how you feel. I was diagnosed in July 2008 and I stopped taking bcp (I was taking them for 4 years) I did not have a period since then until just recently (only because my doc put me on estradiol and prometrium to make af come). She suggested going on the bcp again, but since my husband and I would like to have children in the next few years, I decided against it.

I have heard from many people that bcp has no affect on being able to conceive, but I realize it will be hard to conceive at all with pcos so I would rather not take any chances. As for right now, I am just trying to lose weight and eat right following a low G.I. diet and hopefully that will help to get things back on track a little bit. We will eventually try fertility drugs if I am not able to conceive in a couple of years. I'm trying not to worry too much because that always makes things seem worse than they really are

I hope everything works out okay for you...I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to have children, many women with pcos have had healthy children...a lot of the time more than one!
