I was diagnosed officially in August 2006, after bloodwork and radiology test my doctor prescribed Yasmine. I am reluctant to take Yasmine because while I was on other BCP (Ovacan 35 and Orthotrycyclin) is when my PCOS symptoms began.....or so I noticed. While on Ovacan I stopped getting AF altogether.
My concerns are weight gain mostly, but my doctor said that some of his patients lost weight, reduced acne, and grew back hair, and regulated their cycle. What should I expect being on this pill?
I havent got AF since 8/25/06 and will start when she comes again.

I'm glad you've come here, these women are wonderful and amazing. I hope you grow to love the cysters here as much as I have.
To help a little hopefully........
I've never been on Yasmin to be honest, my dr doesn't want me on the pill. A lot of women on here have a lot of success with Met for their PCOS. bcp seems to be a temporary solution to PCOS symptoms, that may be why you didn't experience any symptoms while on the other bcp. However, if I were you, it can't hurt to try it, right? I'd give it a couple of months, if you don't notice any improvemnets, go back to your doc and tell him that you need to find an alternative. But even if it does help, you really need to be on a long-term plan, and Bcp isn't it from what I've learned. Did he test you for Insulin Resistance? If not I would have him check, a lot of women with PCOS often have this as well. IR usually contributes to weight gain, but can be monitored with proper meds and diet.
One other thing.......remember, if this dr doesn't give you the proper care you feel you should have, or if you feel like he doesn't put much into your concerns, there are other dr's out there, good caring ones and having a good one with PCOS is important. There is a board recommending dr's if you ever need it.
I know that sometimes this crap can be exhausting, upsetting, and just plain overwhelming, but take a deep breath and remember, your not alone, we're here. If you ever need to talk, you can PM me anytime!

You are right about not a long term plan. I am IR and the doc wanted to put me on Met but was concerned that I will start O and I dont want to become pregnant...welll not until after I get married and that is in September 2007. he also suggested the same thing you did...if the pill doesnt work then I can discontinue and he will look for something else. I am a lucky cyster when it comes to dr!
THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!

I just started Yasmin two weeks ago, so I'm not really best placed to comment. What I can tell you is that my endo prescribed yasmin to bring my testosterone a little more under control. I'm on Met too, but it only helped regulate my and clear up my acne. I can't say I'm experiencing anything different so far with my symptoms apart from the fact that I seem to be have some breakthrough bleeding, which according to some of the cysters has happened to them also.
HTH, big hugs,
Dannie.

"If you can keep your head, when all about you are losing theirs, it's just possible you haven't grasped the situation"
If taking the Yasmin scares you that bad, you may go ahead and get on Met, you and your bf could use protection for awhile. That's what me and my DH is having to do. My dr doesn't want us to ttc until i loose some weight, so I am using diaphrams. Just a thought. What about combining the met and the yasmin like audaciousfurball? Maybe that could help even better. Although, I think it would be best for you to start out on one, then move to the other after awhile.
Hi cyster,
I haven't taken Yasmin, but I did have much better results with Met than with BCP in general. Perhaps you can take the met for your PCOS and use protection to prevent pregnancy? Then you might have the added benefit of getting pregnant sooner when you are ready to start trying. Just my thoughts anyway...
Hope this helps! Best wishes with whatever you decide!
Hugs
Jenny

Well I am on Yasmin BCP. Honestly i love it....I didn't gain weight actually helped me loose 5 pounds on it My acne on my chest is NOT better..Before i was on Diane-35 and it gave me more symptoms before i go my period, but my acne was GONE. It made me more blooted and felt my breast were more sensitive right before my period. Instead with Yasmin I don't have any bloothing or sensitivity on my breast, but alittle more acne.
That was the experience i had with Yasmin....(I was on Alesse-It made me spot alot, then Diane i guess it was too strong, and now with Yasmin)
