Newbe question? what things do you need to do to monitor PCOS?
Hi I have been diagnosed with PCOS for about 3-4 years. I am not TTC and have sevre migrianes.
I think since my migraines are so bad that my doctors always focus on them but I was wondering what I need to done to montior my PCOS. Do I need to have blood work do yearly with my pap for instance?
Right now beside the migraine meds. I am on BC for PCOS and also migraine since they are hormone related no met because I have stomach problems.
I am 30-40 lbs overweight and am starting a diet/exercise plan and already lost 5 lbs. my sugars have been low-normal.
Everyone's a little different and everyone's dr is a little different, so you have to figure out what works for you.
My dr wants to do bloodwork twice a year - but I'm TTC. My old dr thought it was okay to do bloodwork once every couple of years, but she also thought that BC was the best way to control it and according to my new dr, that's one of the worst ideas for treatment (but I know there are a lot of disagreeing opinions on that one).
Get some more opinions on this, but then I would suggest talking to your dr about it. I think 3-4 years between testing is bad because you need to know what's going on to correct it. I would think once-a-year testing with a pap would be good just to see what's going on.

I think monitoring your hormone levels and sugars depends on how severe a case of PCOS you have. I have a mild case and had mine checked once a few years ago and that was it.
Diet & exercise really helped my stomach problems, so I'd start there and see if you notice any changes. I could feel a slight difference within a month and a total change within 6 months. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, your body might react faster or slower.
I'd also talk to your Dr about setting goals - Do you need to regulate your period? Are you Oing on your own - do you want to be? Do you want to reduce your occurrence of migraines? See if you can set realistic goals, then use your symptoms as a way to monitor your progress. You shoudl notice some difference in how your body works or how you feel if you're successfully treating the condition.
Good Luck!!!
