Newbie Hello,
My name is Kelly, I am 29, and recently diagnosed with PCOS. I have always had a sneaking suspicion that I have had it, but until now I have always been told that I didn't have enough of the symptoms to have it. I have always had a problem with hirstuism (SP?), the beautiful "apple" figure since a couple years after high school, and excruciating cramps with my periods. I have to take Ibuprophen up to 2 days before I know I am going to start or I'll be in serious trouble!
My husband and I have been TTC for 5 years, had all the infertility tests only to be diagnosed, if that is what you want to call it, with "unexplained infertility." In 2002 I did get pregnant, but lost the baby in Sept. 14, 2002. So now I have a little angel.
In the last 3 months, however, the PCOS symptoms have gotten noticeably worse. I got out of the shower one day and to my horror, my hair was NOTICEABLY thinner. Acne has been worse, and I have been having 2 periods a month. I have also been put on Lexapro for depression.
Finally, I went to a dr that told me that just because my labs were normal, the balance could be off. That is when he did some additional labs and discovered my LH is higher than my FSH and he finally told me that I have a mild form of PCOS. In some ways this is almost an easier diagnosis to deal with than "unexplained" infertility. They want to put me on Gucophage, a medication that lowers your insulin resistance. Anyone familiar with this?
Sorry if this is too lengthy, just trying to figure things out. The puzzle is suddenly falling together.
Thanks for listening,
Kelly
