I am so frustrated I have thick dark hair growth on my face all along my chin and lip, adult acne (never had acne problems until now), I feel really irritable, and I have gained over 80lbs in a year. I went in to my doctor who sent me to a OB/GYN. She put me on a birth control and then two weeks later sent me in to get my hormone levels checked to see if I have PCOS. She just told me today that my hormone levels are normal and there is nothing wrong with me. I said that being on Yasmin for two weeks probably adjusted my hormone levels. She told me that bcp would not affect my hormone levels if I had PCOS. Does anyone know if that is correct? It just doesn't sound right to me.

Sometimes BCPs can affect certain hormone levels - Yasmin and Yaz in particular are considering anti-androgenic (so they can lower testosterone a bit). If you're on BCPs and you need b/w, it should be done on the 3rd day of your cycle. There's something magical about that time for your body (I don't get it) and I'm sure there's a lot less medication in your system after 3 days.

Also, sometimes doctors interpret the lab results incorrectly. What is considered "normal" on paper might be abnormal in reality. There's a few good resources for understanding your own lab results at the top of this forum.

Thank you. Sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy I've been trying to get a diagnosis for 5 years. My husband was in the military for 4 of those 5 years and their response was to lose weight and take an anti-depressant. Now that my husband is out I've been through two doctors and now it looks like I will have to change again.
