Hi Guys,

I'm only new to this site. I don't have PCOS (Thank God), but i've been suffering from hirsutism the last 3 years and am only starting to get somewhere after being for blood tests, an Ultrasound, an MRI Scan a CAT scan they finally ruled out anything major wrong with me. My testosterone level is 8.6 which is quite high. I've just been prescribed Dianette and Androcur to help with this. I'm freaking because i've heard there's so many negative side effects .. I was just hoping maybe someone could shed some light. I already struggle with my weight and depressive moods(due to the hirsutism mainly)

Welcome!

I am a newbie as well. I am trying hard to understand PCOS and how to get well. My testosterone level was high, my insulin level was high and my ovaries has a wonderful pearl necklace.

I am working on a low GI diet, I am taking Metformin and Yaz birth control pills. I am hoping to be healthy by next year.

Best of luck and be wishes on wonderful health.

Keep coming back to soulcysters.

Hugs!

hmm are you sure you dont have PCO??
Am only saying that because for 5 years i was told I didn't have PCOS because the doctor thought I was too thin and I had more or less regular cycles 35 days ish, and ultrasound "apparently" showed no pearl like cysts.

Even though i had the hirsutism, I told her I got fat around the middle, I had majour cravings for sugar and carbs in afternoon, tired after carb foods, losing sclap hair...it was in black and white.. luckily 5 years later I insisted I be retested after going to soul cysters as by then my weight had grown and I had a majour big stoamach and I guess the clincher was my cycles had STOPPEd.. hair was falling out worse than ever and the hirsutism was getting worse.. What was actually getting worse was my weight was going up due to being insulin resitanct and then making the IR worse there fore affecting the hormones etc.. its a vicous circle - until my life saver - METFORMIN XR AND LOW GI EATING and of course exercie which I should get more into I know but easily said than done. I find exercise is the best to make extra hair grow slowr as it reduces my insulin levels. I notice in a matter of weeks after exercising.. easier said than done though hey

.... I mean you might not have the actual cysts (or follicles) on the ovaries right now but you still might have it.
For example - I am not sure if you are normal of overweight at the moment but lets say you are normal to slim - you might find if you put on weight.. you would start to get the cyst, abnormally high insulin and glucose levels then it would affect your hormones and you might get a positive for PCOS....
I am not saying put on weight and see but given you have hirsutism - i would try and keep the weight down - as it will get worse with weight (that is usually the case).

Exercise and eat low GI - and perhaps take met - this usually raises SHBG and lowers free androgens - it doesnt totally fix the extra hair once you have it but it can make it grow slower and thinner..

Once the hair has started, only laser and electrolysis gets rid of a terminal hair which has come from being vellus.

Even laser did not work for me as I have pale skin but dark blond hair and the pigment was too light for laser to pick up and work effectively.

Good luck. Oh by the way I am 34, with Insulin resistance (PCOS)... have been taking met for 8 months and love it. Have lost 10kgs and feel great.
Regular cycles now but still have the extra chin hair but it grows a bit slower and thinner and lighter.

Hi!
I'm a newbie to the site, I just signed up. I was just diagnosed with PCOS in March of 08 after not having AF for 8 months. I went of BC in July of 07 because my hubby and I were TTC after 2 years of marriage. I started charting my temperature but it was all over the place, no sign of Ov. Finally after being diagnosed with PCOS my dr. put me on prometrium to bring on AF and I just finished all my tests, sono, hsg, bloodwork etc... My sugar is ok but my testosterone is high. I have increased acne and chin hair. I also noticed that since I have been off BC it is really hard for me to lose weight. I'm not overweight but wanted to lose about 10 pounds before I conceive. As soon as I get AF again I will be starting my first round of clomid. Any advice?

I Was The Same Way . I Was Thin Up Until The Age Of 23 Then I Gained About 50 Lbs. And The Hair Came. Last Year Was Whwn I Was Diagnosed. It Could Be In Your System But Not Fully Developed For Your Dr. To See.
