I am 25 and was diagnosed with PCOS this week. I have all the symptoms (missed/absent periods, infertility, weight gain, trouble losing weight, etc.) but attributed most of it to my thyroid. My endocrynologist sent me for a bunch of test. That's when I found out I had PCOS.

I had never heard of it before, and its hard to take in all the information at once. I was put on metformin and hoping it will help, as well as trying to change up diet, and excersize.

I was thinking of seeing a nutritionist to help me with a food plan. Has anyone done this? Did it help?

I saw a nutritionist but it wasn't that helpful. I'm pretty thin and not insulin resisitant, but I definitely have PCOS. I went to the nutritionist to help me with a diet for PCOS (not to lose weight but to control the PCOS) but they were clueless. They may be more helpful if you want to lose weight or have the insulin resistance issue. I got the best info online and from books. I like the PCOS Diet Book.

I hadn't read the diet/exercise section yet. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I have weight to lose but am worried that I will get a nutritionist that blows off the PCOS - I am going to check out the book today.

Thanks for welcoming me - It's been hard this week, but knowing there is some place to go to get support has been helpful.
