Hi everyone!
Like the title said I'm new here! I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS this past July. Since then I've been trying to learn as much about it as possible...and I've heard this is one of the best places to get answers about anything and everything PCOS related.
I guess I should give you all a bit of info about myself! I currently live in Ontario, Canada - but I'm originally from Connecticut. I'm 28 and my DH is 30, we've been TTC to conceive off and on for going on about 4 years now (more actively within the past 6-7 months) without any success. Finally decided last October to become a bit more proactive (....the decision was partially prompted by my SIL announcement that she was pregnant...), so we got a referral to a fertility specialist. Our first appointment/consult was in the beginning of May and we finished the "investigative cycle" in the beginning of June. [It took forever for our doctor to get the results to us, hence the reason I didn't get my diagnosis until July

Anywho...test results came back with an elevated LH:FSH ratio (9.2:3.6), a high number of antral follicles (approx 30 on each ovary), a slightly elevated Androstenedione level, and a slightly lower Estrogen level (although from what I can tell still within normal range) - all other tests came back within normal ranges (including the test for glucose tolerance/insulin resistance), HSG/Sonohystogram showed that everything looked great, DH's SA#'s were all well within normal ranges, and ultrasounds showed no cysts. The only other problem that the doc found was that I tested positive for something call ureaplasma....she treated both myself and DH with azithromycin which hopefully worked in clearing up the infection - I still need to get retested for it.
When I was diagnosed the doctor started me on a prescription of dexamethasone to try and lower my Androstenedione level. I go back in this Thursday (the 13th) for follow-up bloodwork to see if the medication is having any affect. I'm really really hoping that it's working! Assuming that it's working, the doc will then put me on Clomid hoping to induce ovulation. I was talking to one of the nurses about it - about the success rate of Clomid - and she says that with my FSH level and high antral follicle count it's looks very promising that I'll respond well to the treatment.
Admittedly, I'm a bit nervous/scared....I'm happy that I finally have somw answers as to why we've been having trouble concieving...but also extremely anxious to begin my first medicated cycle! But, at the same time, I have no idea what to expect so I have tons of questions!
Like, do people with PCOS have good chance of conceiving with treatment? Do people with non-IR PCOS normally respond well to Clomid? How many cycles should I use Clomid for before looking at different treatment methods? Is there anything I can do to help improve my odds of successfully conceiving (assuming I respond to the Clomid)? Does Clomid have a lot of side effects? Can anything be done to help minimize any negative affects that Clomid may have?
I apologize if I'm rambling. The past few months have been a bit of a rollercoaster and I really want to get a better handle on this whole PCOS diagnosis.
Thanks for listening to me! And I hope I get the chance to know you all better!
