A friend sent me a link to this site bc of the coversations we've had the past few weeks...She was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago and has gone several rounds with IVF drugs and said the things I had been talking about were right up the PCOS ally....and I am happy to have found it...
I am 32 years old and have NEVER had a regular cycle since my first one appeared at age 9 (thanks mom)..I am lucky to get maybe 5 a year..I have had 2 M/C in the past 10 years and welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world in march of 2004 (each time i have gotten pregnant it's been a month off birth control and then i am pregnant)...I was breastfeeding so I chose not to take the mini-pill and am not taking any form of birth control right now...I have had my thyroid tested and it came out within the ok levels and I passed the glucose tolerance test (one hour) when pregnant with flying colors...However, within the past 3 years or so I have gained in excess of 40 pounds despite working out, eating right, all around my abdomen only....I have a bit of the hirsutism on my abdomen and my inner thighs which I wax...
I am the only female in my family of 5 women (6 with me) that isn't taking some form of Synthroid for Hypothyroidism and that came as a shock to my mother but she is happy I don't have to take it...She was irregular her whole life she says and had several M/C before she became pregnant with me and then had to use Provera to stay pregnant (if i remember right from our talks).....
I would love to find out what's going on as in a few years I would love to try to have another sweet child...hopefully I will have insurance that covers the needed testing by then.....Until then, if I have it (or think I may have it) what to do???
I appreciate the time you have taken to read this and wish you a great day....

Been reading for a few days now and have pages and pages of notes...feels like I'm back in school.....Haven't read too much on the natural supplements yet....
My sister is a nutritionist and my diet is super healthy (became even healthier last year bc I was breastfeeding....) and am working out...maybe not doing the right things though....
I'll go and take a look at the articles later this afternoon...thanks
Have you asked your sister about the glycemic index and what foods are best for you according to that? Such as in general fruit is good for you but gertain ones turn to sugar really quickly and so generally arent too good for PCOS folks

Until I have the insurance to get the proper tests done I won't know which "type" I am....I have a new GP and when I spoke to her about the lack of periods and how many I sometimes get a year she almost immediatly said that I wasn't ovulating bc of the other things I mentioned....
My current PPO doesn't include any specialists that I would need to see.....it sucks...Hopefully I can get some ans with my GP and go from there....
thanks i bookmarked the link for there bc it had several other articles that I wanted to read....
Cool: I don't have a regular OB/GYN....I saw a midwife for this last pregnacy..The practice she is with though does have two OB/GYN's but I didn't like them too much...Very cold and business like...A new midwife joined the practice last month and she specializes in infertility and such so I want to meet her..Unfortunatly that will have to wait until my annual in mid-November as insurance pays for only one a year....Would they be able to do any kind of testing then and what should I ask for????
Cathy: Thanks..Congrats (albeit belated) on your pregnacy.....treasure these last few weeks as they fly by..I went a week late and ended up with an 8 pound 15 ounce (yikes..how'd she get so big on so little weight gain) bundle of pure delight..She is a girly girl and amazes me every day...I got an extra week since I went over to play tag with those feet and arms and watch her stick her butt out...I miss it....The first year will fly too....Wonderful!!!! You must be on
Have a great night all....I'll CB tomorrow sometime....:hug
captivagirl - check out the link in Kat's post in this thread for the tests to be run for PCOS. I would bring the list to appointment with you. Good luck!!!
