I was diagnosed last Monday, which happened to be the right day of my cycle to start Clomid- which I did (day 2). I have been TTC since 11/01, and fell pregnant in 4/02, but miscarried (blighted ovum) at 10 weeks 1/6/02. No luck since then, and very irregular cycles which my doc said I might expereince after D & C. Finally decided enough was enough and went to ob/gyn, who diagnosed PCOS.
I never thought I would have any troubled TTC! You just think it won't happen to you! Especially when others in your extended family seem to be having no trouble at all.
Am also scared at prospect of diabetes, heart trouble, cancer, etc. Although, I must admit, I am not really overweight (I would like to lose about 5kg, but this is not much really, I still have a healthy BMI). I d on't really have any of the other symptoms of PCOS except irregular cycles (where I do actually ovulate), and a high LH/FSH ration.
I am concerned if Clomid is the right thing to be on after reading some people are on Metformin. Which is more effective? If I am already ovulating (albeit with long cycles) is Clomid the right thing to be taking? How long does it take on Clomid to fall pregant? Does anyone have any success storied to cheer me up- because I really feel I need it right now!
Sorry that I have gone on and on but just needed to vent a little! So many things going through my mind!
Thank you for your post. I am on Met, but not TTC and am afraid that I am unable to offer advice on the medication front.
I know it can be so overwhelming when you are first diagnosed. I would like to suggest looking at the Newbie area as I believe knowledge is power and the more I understand about PCOS the less overwhelming it becomes for me.
Big hugs to you and lots of baby dust

Hi Angela,
Welcome to SC, it does seems all so overwhelming with so much to take in... I found reading and asking questions on this site very helpful and I also bought a couple of books that helped me understand PCOS... Collette Harris has a good one its just called "PCOS" and its pretty easy to get...
I am not on Metformin but alot of others here are. I decided to try and trackle this through my diet instead. Carb restriction can really help to lower you blood sugar and help with insulin resitance, and in turn balance your hormones. They don't really know what comes first - the cysts or the hormone imbalance, but each aggrivates the other, so getting them under control can help aleviate symptoms.
As for the clomid - I concieved on my 2nd round. And you will see on the Preg board lots of other success stories... and even stories of ladies who were ovulating on their own, and the clomid gave them the boost they needed to get preg.
Good Luck to you, I'll see you around!
Tollee

I'm not on either met or clomid...I just wanted to welcome you to SC, and to say good luck with TTC.
I know when I first got diagnosed all the information is totally overwhelming.....but coming to this site and reading all the stuff...in the newbie forum, and also the research articles, and the good websites/books etc forums - its a maze of information!!!
Thankyou so much Liz, Tollee, Eva and Scottie! I was having a bad day yesterday and just needed to vent. It's good to know there are other people who feel or have felt like this! At least now I know what was taking me so long to conceive, and there are treatments for it (things could be worse!).
I had a big chat to a friend today who also has PCOS and has known for some time, so it was good to share in person also.
Hey Angela!!
Welcome to SC. Hopefully this place will help overcome the overwhelming feeling you have. There are lots of great people and lots of information here so join in and ask any questions you have.
I am very familiar with Toowoomba as I was born and bred in Millmerran . I have lots of friends in Toowoomba. Whose your ob/gyn there? I was seeing John Esler (while I was living in Roma) but changed when we moved to Brissy last year.
To cut a long story short, I took metformin when I concieved my son (and clomid). Had 2 m/c on clomid alone and the met seemed to do the trick for me. If I can help with anything else feel free to drop me a line .
Hey Angela,
Don't give up yet! Even though on my 1st round of clomid I O'd around CD17, my 2nd round, I didn't O till cd23! And I got Preggas that time!!! Just remember every cycle is different!
Hoping this is the one for you! Good Luck and baby dust to ya!!!

Thanks for helping me stay positive! Sometimes it's hard to get your hopes up in case they get crushed again...but I guess you've just gotta keep looking for that light at the end of the tunnel.
I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Angela
