Default Newbie & First Month with Provera

Hi everyone! I'm newly diagnosed with PCOS (just diagnosed in mid-March) and I'm so thankful that I found this site. I wasn't sure about the diagnosis but after reading about other people's symptoms here I wish I had found this site sooner! I've grown up with Hypoglycemia, depression, and anxiety. A year and a half ago I had a significant weight gain that coincided with my wedding and the abrupt end to my normal monthly cycle. I just assumed it was stress related (I'm also a tax accountant so that equals lots of stress too). A year and a half later and I'm finally diagnosed with PCOS. I just can't wait to get back to my normal self. I haven't felt like me in a year & a half!

April was my first month on Provera - my 10 day string of taking the med ended this past Thursday. Saturday morning marked the arrival of AF. AF is extremely heavy (going strong 3 days now) and I'm pretty worn out and not feeling well. Is that normal for the first withdrawal period? This is the first AF I've had since January (which was just spotting) and I hadn't had one since October before that. I wasn't sure if I should call my doc or not, I just am not sure what to expect with this since it's all so new to me. I sure hope every month is not like this!

Thanks!

My AF was horrible whenever I used Provera. And it lasted about 10 days! I hope your cycle gets straightened out!

And welcome to the board!

Hi Randi. My experience has been almost identical to yours. I was diagnosed with PCOS 3/20/08 and I started Provera and got AF. Mine was also very heavy! It lasted just about 10 days, it was very heavy for about 3 then subsided after that. Good thing I stocked up on pads/tampons I hadn't had mine for over a year. Hope that helps.

I'm on my second month of Provera. I didn't get AF for about 2 years. Last month was my first month taking it, and AF wasn't that bad, although I didn't miss it... This month seems much worse and super heavy. So you might not have that much to look forward to...then again, everyone's body is different. Good luck!
