Default Newbie and has some questions

Hi my name is Lindsey and I was recently diagnosed with PCOS a couple of months ago. I have experienced, weight gain, oily skin, irregular periods and facial hair. I am on Metformin 1500 mg a day and also do the Creighton model to evaluate my ovulation. I have been on Metformin since July and haven't seen a difference at all. I haven't lost any weight and have even started working out more and reducing some of my carbs. I go to a dietician who stated I need to reduce my carbs to 45% on my total carb intake but my fertility specialist suggested I try reducing my eating no wheat, dairy or sugar and she has seen people achieve results from that. I'm wondering has anyone tried this? You basically eat lean meat, fish, veggies and fruit. Mostly veggies though and I HATE veggies. So my question is has there been any success in taking out carbs, dairy, and sugar for PCOS?

Thanks

I do this. No grains, dairy or sugar. I also don't eat much fruit (there is a lot of sugar in fruit -- my doctor calls it "tree candy") and I don't eat potatoes. I limit starchy vegetables. I stay away from practically every processed food, as everything contains sugar. It is actually easier than it sounds, as I don't limit the quantities of meat or green veggies that I eat, and I eat a lot of nuts and eggs for snacks. Plus, once you stop eating so many carbs, your appetite WILL diminish. My PCOS symptoms have improved immensely and I lost weight. I think if you commit to doing this for 2 weeks, you will see improvements and you will be motivated to continue.

Thanks for the reply.. I thought about getting rid of the sugar/dairy/wheat but I do not like veggies. Do you have sample menu that you can provide. Did you do this gradually or cold turkey? Thanks

You have to learn to like veggies regardless if you drop sugar/dairy/wheat from your diet. They really, really, really will help with your PCOS.

I recommend doing it cold turkey. You may feel badly the first several days, but that's just your body weaning itself off the sugar and simple carbs. If you have craving, eat a handful of raw nuts like walnuts or almonds. I ate way too many nuts my first week but it helped my cravings.

For breakfast, I generally eat 2-3 eggs or some gluten-free sausage. I will have a small slice of avocado, tomato, or some berries.

For lunch, I have a medium-sized spinach salad with 4-6 ounces of chicken or turkey. Lots of olive oil on the salad.

For dinner, I have 4-6 ounces of red meat or fish with about 2-3 cups of veggies covered in butter.

I snack on nuts, olives, and celery. I drink lots of herbal tea.

I never eat too much food at one time because I will get hypoglycemic.

I have found that cutting out dairy has helped my acne significantly. =)
