Hello everyone. I am new to this forum but not to PCOS. I have been diagnosed with PCOS since the age of 19, 1997. I have only been on BCP since the age of 14 when my menstral cycle began. I have only recently been on Metphormine but found that I don't like the medication at all. I feel sick all the time and have very bad headaches. I have told my physician this and she has placed me back on BCP for the time being. I am also "fat" and need to lose weight so bad. She and I have come to the conclusion that my weight and diet has a lot of bearing on how my body is reacting to the medication. So my first and formost perscription is to lose weight. So, I am desperately seeking any and all help to reduce my cravings for carbs and all the not so good food. My husband and I do want children really bad but have come to an agreement that if I cannot have a child then we will adopt two dogs. We have gone the adoption route but found to be too pricey and too heartbreaking so we have opted to have dogs for our children. May sound a little funny to some but that is what will work for us. One thing that hurst the most is that my brother, while I am very happy for him, keeps having children so I am now a Aunt to three children. I enjoy them but long for one of my own.
I cannot wait to visit all the post and get a lot of information.

Welcome!! The first thing I would suggest is making a reasonable, attainable goal. 110 is VERY intimidating to lose!!! Why not try 10 pounds first? Itty bitty steps will lead you to the same goal and it's like many small victories. Second, have you talked to your doctor about weight loss drugs like Phentermine or Meridia or something like that? It may help take the edge off those cravings.

Janeesa,
I have decided to start out slow. This week coming up I will start an exercise program, try at least three days this week, of walking and low-impact aerobics. Also, I am working on just losing 2 lbs this week and making better food choices. I have not talked to my doctor about any type of weight loss medications simply because the last time I was "suggested" to try one by the endo. he said the only side effects would be that it makes your bowels "discard" all the fat in your diet. I have to be careful because I have IBS and a lot of medications that would do that would keep me in the bathroom; I would probably lose a lot of weight but not retain enough fluid to keep me hydrated. I will ask about these and see what my new doctor suggests. Thanks so much.

I know that phentermine isn't that type of discard-fat drug. It absolutely kills your hunger. It's worth checking into. Small steps are the key. You're doing the right thing. Allow yourself some splurges though--they keep you sane. I've lost 143 lbs and kept it off. Good luck and you can do it!!!
