Hi everybody. I am new here and to PCOS. I haven't recieved my formal diagnosis yet because the tests results have not come back and I go for my lovely ultrasound on Monday, but after a year and half of no period, and a multitude of other symptoms I convinced myself to go in and see the Doctor. I know I know I should have gone sooner...its just not my favorite place to go. Anyways the Dr. said that with my symptoms she is leaning towards two seperate problems. It is either PCOS or primary ovarian failure. Out of the two I am hoping it is PCOS. Kinda sad that I actually hope for it to be that. My husband and I are actively trying for kids so I hope to have a diagnosis soon. I am here for the support. I don't really have anyone that understands what it is I am struggling with since most of my friends, and sister-in-laws have children and have not struggled with the idea of possibly not having any children at all. Any friendly advice or things I should know in the early stages of working with my Dr. would be greatly appreciated! TIA
Whenever you are given a new Dx, it is good to ask the doc to explain exactly what is happening in your body, to help you understand the diagnosis.
Also make sure that you are given all the treatment options that are available to you, with pros and cons of each, including cost, side effects, and success rates. Then you should be allowed to chose which options that you want to try first.
Many docs, just tell their patients the Dx, and just put them on their Tx of choice, without including the patient in the decision.
Be proactive, and ask all your questions, and make sure you have a part in chosing your treament plan.
I am not familiar with primary ovarian failure, so I am not sure what treatment optons that you have if that is your Dx.
If you get a PCOS Dx, then this board of full of cysters who have tried many different Tx options, and you can get a lot of information and support here.

Welcome- I just joined this message board, but I already love it.......I'm sorry to hear you are also having trouble conceiving. I was diagnosed w/ PCOS in Sept of 06. I had about a year plus a few months of weird irregular cycles & one day after having, many many ulstrasounds- they noticed polycystic ovaries. Bloodwork confirmed my LH being higher than normal......I pray that whatever your doctor says there will be options for you & your husband. Both my brother & sister have children w/ no problems & I have sister-in-laws who can pop kids out so easy! I know how frustrating & discouraging this time in life is......It just doesn't seem right sometimes.......Keep your head up girl! Hope for the best- stay positive......Although I'm new I've researched a lot so if I can help you in any way please let me know........
WELCOME TO SC!!!! I hope that you can enjoy the fun here and support as much as I have!!
