Default Newbie here..awaiting b/w results :(

Hi girls. I'm Jeanie..33years old, married to Jon who turns 30 next month. I have 2 girls, Madison and Mackensie from previous marriage. I went to a new OB/GYN 2 weeks ago regarding some issues I've been noticing. TTC for 14 months now. Had no trouble conceiving my girls so this was odd for me. Since having my youngest 5.5 years ago, I never lost all the weight I gained and have remained about 30-40 lbs overweight and the weight just doesn't budge! No matter what I do! Anyway, along w/ no luck TTC, since May I have noticed that I've been losing my hair BAD!!!! I have excessive hair growth on my upper lip, my arms, my abdomen and even my legs seem to be producing more hair than before. Acne has become horrible.. especially on the sides of my neck EWWWW I never had that!! Dry scalp as well. And then there's the depression and/or mood swings/irritability. Then through in irregular periods. Now granted, I have AF every month.. but my whole life I was a full 7 day AF.. and really heavy on CD 3 and 4. Since May, AF has been light some months and/or short some months.. like only lasting 2 days. So to me, that would be considered 'irregular'. This last AF I had no cramps, no PMS, no sign she was on her way.. guess I didn't ovulate. Geesh..I'm rambling..sorry.
So, new OB/GYN said he feels it may very well be PCOS. So he ordered lab work. I went in today and had my blood drawn. He is testing: LH, TSH, FSH, Prolactin, estraidol (sp?), Testosterone, Progesterone and 17-hydroxyprogesterone I think. I think that is all he had checked. I hope he covered all his bases. I guess I am just wondering what you cysters think. Anyone shed any light on this? A friend said it could also be thyroid related...but with the hair growth, acne, etc.. everything I read points more towards PCOS. I won't get the results until the 7th. Please lend an ear and any knowledge. Thanks so much!!!

Hi, just wanted to say welcome to SC. It does sound an awful lot like you have PCOS. Some cysters don't have the problem getting pregnant that the majority of us have. Good luck.

Jeanie~ Welcome to SoulCysters! From what you describe, it sounds to me like you do have PCOS. Wow, the 7th seems like an awful long time to wait on those results! I would drive myself and everyone around me crazy waiting that long! Have you discussed any sort of treatment plan or TTC plan with him yet? Good luck to you and keep us updated. If you need anything, just ask...you're among some of the best women in the world for support, information, advice and friendship!

Awww....thanks for replying. Anyone else wanna throw in their 2cents..please do. Yes..I'm gonna go crazy waiting until the 7th!!! I haven't discussed treatment, course of action or anything as of yet. I guess the dr. didn't want to jump the gun. He did say though that treatment would depend upon which issue I want to tackle.. which was more of a priority. Getting pg or getting the symptoms like hair falling out, excessive hair growth elsewhere, etc.. under control. He did say that the main way they treat all that is going back on BC. I was on the patch and loved it so I'd probably go back to that if that was the case. My husband said that his main concern is getting me healthy and keeping me that way. Anyone have any diet suggestions. I am reading Sugar Busters now. Ugh.. I don't do diets very well. My husband LOVES potatoes, rice..all those horrible carbs!!!!! Anything that I can take..naturally..like vitamins or herbs or whatever that has been known to have a good effect on PCOS?? I've surfed the web until I see dots.. LOL I did read a blurp about saw palmetto?????? Thanks girls. Help keep me sane until the 7th!!!

Well, sounds like your here for support too. My PCP just gave me the preliminary dx on 8/25 and now we've run more blood tests and i'm hanging out waiting until 9/9 when I'm supposed to have an appt. with her to discuss our options. If anything I understand about the DH liking the carbs. My DH thinks a meal just isn't a meal until he's had a biscuit and potatoes. It's going to be tough, but having the SC's here will help.
