Newbie here- Dr actually has told me 2x now she thinks it's PCOS
This second time, though, is where we really started talking about it. The first time she mentioned it, I kinda ignored it because I didn't really know what PCOS was and she didn't really force the issue or anything (wish I would have looked it up sooner). But after talking about it again at my last appointment, and her telling me to read up on it a little on the internet, I am not even questioning whether or not I have it........I know I do.......and it's so great to know that I am not alone in everything that I've been dealing with.
I'm an information vacuum right now, and have been doing so much research. My Dr is coming back from vacation today and has a message to call me, so I'm figuring we'll do some tests and everything before she can officially make a diagnosis? I'm surprised that she's the one who suggested it though since from what I've been reading, it takes most dr's a few times to get with the program and diagnose.
Anyway, just wanted to post something since this board seems like such a great place for information and support. Thank you ladies so much for all you've done for me so far, and we've never even talked lol
Ah, you'd think after reading everything on here, I'd know what to say to the Dr, but you just get so flustered, ya know?
She said that I have insulin resistance, and that she's very sure of the PCOS. Is starting me on glucophage, 500mg a day......going up every week by 500 until I hit 2000 mg. Also going on BC, but a low dose to start out. Also said we should follow up in a month, and then if necessary send me to a Endocrinologist (sp?)
She also said my fasting blood sugar was normal, so the insulin resistance hasn't affected my blood sugar yet........
So on the phone I'm all 'okay, right, okay, yeah that'll work' and then I have a thousand questions lol. I may have to call her again later.........
so does this mean I'm diagnosed or am I just kinda in limbo trying stuff?
It was the same for me - I was diagnosed two years ago, put on the pill and I figured everything was hunky-dory. I didn't start to read up on what I had until this week - after a subsequent doctor's visit that made me realize that while not the end of the world, PCOS is certainly more than I thought it was. Don't let yourself get freaked out by all the information though - everyone is different, and if you have a doctor that knows anything about PCOS, she'll be your best resource. I tend to jump to the worst case scenario, when I won't necessarily have ALL the problems related to PCOS.
It sounds like your doctor has diagnosed you as having PCOS and is treating you accordingly. You are so lucky to have a doctor with PCOS knowledge.
