Default Newbie here...Hi!

Hi,

I'm a newbie...I was just diagnosed with PCOS and am awaiting my appt to discuss treatment. I have a DD who's 8. It took 14 mos to conceive her. I had irregular (almost nonexistent periods) at the time. Since discontinuing ortho tri cyclen bcp in 3/02 my AF has been pretty regular (30-35 day cycles). I use a Clear Plan Fertility Monitor and do ovulate. We started ttc 6/7/02 (our wedding day !).

Well...now I don't have any trouble conceiving. I just can't seem to maintain a pg. I got pg in July 02...missed m/c at 10 w 5d due to blighted ovum(had a d&c). Got pg in Nov 02...m/c 1/03 at 5w 6d(had a d&c due to oncontrollable bleeding). Got pg again in Feb 03 and used baby aspirin and progesterone supps (starting at about 14 dpo)...m/c at 5w 3d.

My new Dr. said I have a luteal phase defect in addition to PCOS. He said we should start progesterone supps after O, but before I could know if I'm pg or not. He's still running some tests, but said my uterus and ovaries look fine. I'm so confused...I didn't used to O regularly...now I do but can't stay pg. Has anyone else had or heard of PCOS manifesting itself in the same person int such different ways??? Help, please?

Thanks if you read this far!

Hi,

Thanks for the response. Is the P4 the one they check at 8 dpo? If so, I'm waiting to O (expect to in a few days and then going to have it checked). It's so hard to monitor O, but not be ttc!

If that's not what the P4 is, what is it?

Thanks again!

Your Dr. should also check to make sure you don't have a blood clotting issue. I have friends who needed heprine shots (SP wrong maybe) because of continued MC due to blood clotting. Asprin can help, but this is much stronger. Good luck!

Mommatv,
I have a similar situation... Have PCOS, but symptoms have seemed to get a bit better with age and I had 42 day long cycles and did O but couldn't get pr. Finally, I got pr with injectables and IUI but had a m/c. Then, my cycles seemed to improve as a result of having been pr and I had earlier O and got pr again but m/c again. I am about to see one of the best docs on recurrent m/c to find out what's going on. I have heard that the same factors that make it hard to get pr can contribute to recurrent m/c once you finally do get pr... so it seems we get to experience both (lucky us!) Anyhow, I am sorry for your losses and hope that you will find a good doc and have a full work-up on the possible causes. I was on both progesterone and baby asprin with the last one, but suspect it may have been an infection or hyperthyroidism. Best of luck.
