Hey everyone, I live in Sydney with 3 males (one of those purr). I'm 23 years old, and come from the outback. My gynecologyst doagnosed me with PCOS in october last year after many years of putting on kg's for no reason and irregular periods. I had to badger my GP into referring me for blood tests. Anyway, i made it through the gynecologyst tests, to be told i probably have a tumour and i need to go see an endocrynologyst to scan my head..he said to go back to him on march. He also said i don't have PCOS and it's just a weight issue, because all my hormone levels were elevated due to my weight being so high. He said in the meantime to clean up my act and lose some weight, which i have tried, but have not managed to lose a single kg!! My new GP says that every year they're going to take blood and continue to test me. I don't know why the 2 GP's differ so much in their approach to my health and getting more opinions will end up taking twice as long, and i can't really afford to get anymore depressed than i already am... I don't know if anyone else has had any problems, because i have only just found this marvelous site. Any feedback would be great.
Hi Cmou,
Welcome to the site!.I came on here a couple days ago after referred by a friend of mine to check this place and it is the most helpful site I've been in a long time.I know your fustrations as to lose weight.I had gained almost 100 lbs in the last 2 years and I couldn't understand why I was gaining all the weight as I was always active. My periods would come every 3 months and at first,I thought it was due to all the stress I was enduring.I left it go and go until this past December.I was constantly bleeding for 2 months straight( not heavily) it was affecting how I do my normal routines such as swimming at my local Y,exercising I went to see my Gynecologist and I explained what is going on and mentioned my mother passed away from ovarian cancer.(At first, that was what I was thinking) He done a pap, lipid and TSH test.Pap came back normal,My TSH was 4.2 which is high and told me I was not ovulating( reason why my fiance and I was not having children)He prescribed me Provera 10 mg for 10 days and told me I would be having a menstrual period.Well..The effects of the medication is harsh!.I am still enduring the major pains but I know it is to shed the lining. On Thursday,I have another appointment with my doctor to see what treatments would be recommended. As I want to have ababy, more than likely,I probably will be on fertility treatments.
Glad to have you
Wendy
Winnie 26, I've read a lot that people are prescribed Provera to bring on their period. I haven't had my period since November 27th, 2005 and I was prescribed Prometrium to bring on my period. I've been taking it for 3 days and so far, no bleeding.

I took prometrium for 10 days and started a period 2 days later. My dr said this was normal, although it only lasted for 2 days and did not shed the lining like it was supposed to. I am now on provera.
