I'm Andrea (29) and was diagnosed PCOS in January 2007. I've been on met 2000 mg ever since. I've never had a spontaneous period on my own. I was anovulatory in high school. My Gyn put me on a provera test and it worked too well. I had low iron levels after a prolonged heavy period and put on liquid iron (bad gag reflex) for a couple months. Afterwards, we played around with BCPs to find one that worked for me. I found that I have terrible cycles on anything except monophasic pills. I went off BCPs in June 99, never had a period, and found out I was pregnant when I miscarried January 00 at 8weeks. I went on to go on clomid for 2 cycles to have DD (4) in early 2002 and she was born January 03. Back on BCPs to cycle again. We stopped BCPs May 06 to try again. More clomid (6 more cycles) and femara (3 cycles) with trigger shots and 4 failed IUIs, even with metformin in the mix with half of all the cycles. We still have not gotten pregnant, no chemical, m/c, nothing. I'm on a break for emotional and financial reasons right now, on metformin only. I'm looking at my past to see any possibilities I've overlooked. The fatigue thread got me thinking about the anemia I had. I've been exhausted and forgetful since going off BCPs last year. I thought it was depression taking hold because I was getting BFNs but maybe this is happening again? My periods aren't heavy though. My labs are getting better for cholesterol, fasting glucose and triglycerides plunged since starting metformin. It isn't doing anything for the fatigue though. I have lowered my carb intake and kept up my exercise. I exercise at least 3 times a week since May 2000, doing treadmill, lapswim and aqua aerobics, plus some ab/pilates. My sex drive also plummeted after we started trying. However it came back in force this break cycle (which helped!) My temperatures were wonky this break cycle and I thought it would be anov but it's starting to inch up, one 'rocky mountain ledge' at a time. FF says I ovulated at cd26 or 27. Any thoughts?
welcome to SC. Have you tried B-12 supplements for the fatigue? it really helped me. good luck

hello and welcome to SC, have you ever been tested for anemia?? I dont have much advice but I was wondering if you had ever considered and HSG or a laparscopy surgery just to make sure that there wasnt any other problems. My DH and I have been ttc for 4 years and I had a lap last week onlyto find out my right tube was blocked, my right ovary was in the wrong position and my left ovary was so cystic it was encased in a hard like shell. So if your insurance will cover it I think its a good idea, I myself wish i would have done this sooner because I pretty much wasted 4 years of clomid and femara trying to get pregnat when I really had no hope anyway. Good Luck to you and keep us posted!!!
Thanks for the responses! I have considered taking supplements for the fatigue. I take so many pills it's hard to keep track though. I have had an HSG and it was all clear. The RE thinks a Lap isn't necessary but is willing if I really want to try it. I have considered it; my insurance covers it and the deductible was shot in January so there's be little OOP. However I am a bit worried since it's so invasive. Isn't it a bit more painful than the HSG? I am scheduled to start with a new PCP in September. I am hoping she can help me with some diagnostics too. My plan is to get tested for anemia then. I will get B-12 next time I'm in Sams Club. It's worth a try.
speaking of HSG. i've been considering this for a while but haven't been able to see a consitent doctor for a few years (military). Did you bring up HSG with your doc, or did they suggest it? I'd bef. try the b-12 or b-complex (what i take). Can't go wrong, it can't hurt, ya know? i take a TON of pills now too...so many i got GERD from the darn things! LOL But i find a pill sorter helps a ton.

I just started seeing an RE in june, she wanted to do the lap mainly with me to go and drain a lot of my cysts but I found out a lot of info from it that I never knew before. But as for my RE she recommended the Lap on my 1st visit I think mainly because we had been ttc for so long. I have never had a HSG before but with the lap I had very minimal pain afterwards. I was completely put under and when I woke up I was a little nauseated and for the following 2 days I was really sore but only around my belly button and my belly was a little swollen. Today though is 5 days post op and I feel great I even went to work today but I pretty much felt fine on Saturday and that was 3 days post op. Good Luck!!
My first RE suggested the HSG, a minimal invasive procedure to check and possibly clear blockages. My new RE doesn't want to go with invasive, but he was also ready to jump into IVF and I want a Lap before that to make sure. However, we're not planning on IVF in the next few months. I'm taking a metformin-only TTC break because of the roller coaster of the last year. It took a toll on our marriage. DH and I both need time to heal emotionally and reach out again. :/ Long story short, I plan to get a Lap if I decide to do IVF.
