I hope everyone is well and has had a lovely summer!
Well, i guess i should tell you why i'm here.
When i was 19, i was diagnosed with a Fibroid (non-cancerous tumour) located on my womb. It was a large, 18cms. Luckily, it was sitting on the top of my womb and was removed via the bikini line. The surgeon told me that she thought i had slight PCOS (this were in August 2006).
Ever since i have had mixed reviews if i had it or not. It wasn't clear. The last Dr i asked said it 'sounds' like i do. I have one or two hair grows, on hair under my chin and on my chest. My periods are regular though, although my cycle is approx 30 days long.
What i've always wanted in life is children. I know PCOS can affect fertility. And it prays on my mind regularly, especially when the people around me are having babies. Although i don't plan on having babies just yet, as i'm at uni. I really want children in the future.
I would be very greatful if anyone could give me any information or guidence on what could help me.
Congrats on working towards your degree! I thought I would not want children until well into my 30's and career first and coming from a family where pretty much everyone can hardly prevent pregnancy from happening I thought it would be easy for me too. When I decided I was ready, my body apparently wasn't and I got the diagnosis of PCOS annovulatory in May 2009.
I think you are wise to be thinking ahead. If I had known earlier, I would have changed my diet sooner to a low GI diet and gotten off caffeine as high carbs and caffeine increase insulin resistance (thought to be the main cause of PCOS symptoms). Currently, I am following the diet recommended in a book called The Natural Diet Solution for PCOS and Infertility by Nancy Dunn ND. I believe this diet has increased my energy levels, improved my skin, hair and nails.
I would also suggest getting a basal body thermometer and checking temps daily to see if you ovulate during your 30 day cycle or if you are anovulatory. If you truly do not ovulate there are plenty of medical interventions to help with inducing ovulation that your doctor can advise you on when you are ready. My doctor has chosen to have me start with Clomid.

Hey there im from huddersfield, and while i have an actual diagnosis im in the same boat as you, im at uni in london, so while im not ready for kids yet it does bother me in a few years time wen i might start to ttc that i wont be able to. If you dont already ask to be refered to an endocrinologist, theyll look at your hormone profile as well as any scan etc. I agree with luv2run1st whether you over weight or thin a low gi diet is the best way to help with symptoms, also exercise is important for weightloss if thats a problem. I also have periods that are fairly regular, so if you want to know now whether you ovulate using a basal body thermometer is the easiest way to do it, you can use sites such as fertility friend to map this which will show you if it thinks you have ovulated etc. Other than that unless your doctor suggests to put you on something like mine put me on metformin to regualte my cycles better a healthy diet is the best way to help combat symptoms and regulate your hormones
HTH and im always about if you want a better chat about stuff

Thanks so much for your reply. I feel i have so much to learn about PCOS. At the moment all i seem to be focusing on is 'will i be able to have children' and it feels awful because i will never know until i try.
I'm going to make an appointment for the 14th of September to see a Doctor and try and get some answers.
I'm sure i will get the same, 'don't worry, we can give you medication to help you conceive'. I don't see it being as easy as just that.
I'm in the same boat as you, i'm 26 and have just been diagnosed. I know that I don't want kids at the moment but its something that I want within the next 5 years. I have been referred to a gynaecologist after my dr done blood tests and I had abnormal levels. I am going to speak to them about how to make changes now so I can get myself in the best condition for when I want to start trying.
Good luck with your dr's appointment and if you want to msg me at any point feel free, it's quite scary and overwhelming to start off with isnt it, but we shall get there x
