Polycystic ovaries and Polycystic ovarian syndrome are two different things...
Polycystic ovaries are very common in women, and don't necessarily mean that a woman has Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or that she will develop it.
It's NOT common for women with 'garden variety' polycystic ovaries to have irregular/annovulatory periods.
It is possible to have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome without having all of the symptoms frequently associated with it.
