I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS, as a matter of fact I haven't even been to the doctor about it or told anyone. Obviously, I don't know I have it but it's a gut feeling I've had for a long time.
My periods aren't maddly irregular but at the same time not regular, they're either very very heavy and last for just a few days, or really light and last for weeks. I also get extreme (sometimes housebounding) amounts of pain, stomach cramps and back ache.
I have quite a bit of excess body hair, a little on my chin and stomach. I have one skin tag just underneath where the bottom of my bra would sit. I have previously been diagnosed with post viralfatigue disorder but I think it could have been related to this?
I am scared of the doctors anyway and it takes my flatmate kicking me through the surgery door to go in if I have a sore throat so I'm finding it impossible to go in for this.
Any advice?
A very scared and embarassed 19 yr old
Hello!
I was in exactly the same boat as you - I thought I had PCOS for ages but was too scared and embarassed to go to the dr. Let me tell you now that once you go in and list your symptoms, the doctor will just very calmly tell you what they think and you will feel better. I know it is scary when you think there is something wrong but the best thing you can do is go to the doctor about it. Try and get a female doctor too, as that might make you feel a bit better. Do you feel you could ask your flatmate to go with you for moral support? From a fellow embarassed but ultimately on the way to being healthier 19 year old. xx
I was the same way. I would try to hide my yucky hair from the doctor (I did not want the doctor to think I am a hair freak). I always wondered what was wrong with me. I would read on the internet, but still could not find a thing.
But I watched Oprah about women facial hair and Dr. Oz said something about this thing called PCOS. I decided to call the OBGYN. My OB took 1 look at me and said, "You do not look well. I have an idea what you may have... Let's run some tests." So, I had a biopsy, blood tests, and then ultrasound. He confirmed PCOS high testosterone, blood glucose higher than normal, and pearls on my ovaries.
take a deep breath, call the doctor (take a friend if you need to), and bring in your list of questions and symptoms (like Eva said).
The sooner you see the doctor the sooner you will be back to your normal self. Do not let wait too long.
Let us cysters know how you are doing... Keep coming back.
I will be praying and thinking of you.
HUGS!

You have nothing to be ashamed of hun. Go to your doctor, and believe me a doctor will not bat an eyelid at your problems. You need to get help and if you do have pcos then maybe u and your doctor can find a way to help you deal with your symptoms. PCOS is an illness that does require treatment at times so better get it sorted sooner rather than later. Good luck with it and let us know how u get on x
Thanks for your comments everyone, I really appreciate it. I'm going to have to push my nerves away and visit the doctor, I'm not sure when though! My flatmate would help me but she is unaware of all the symptoms, she mentioned it just due to my weird and painful periods - I think she'd be very supportive, it's just getting the courage to tell her everything. x
