Hello everyone! I have been visiting for a few days and finally registered, all the information and support seems so helpful! I was diagnosed a few weeks ago based on my hormone levels and symptoms (overweight, hirustism, dark skin patches, and no AF visits since February and went off BCP last AUgust for first time in 10 years when all this started gradually coming out of the woodwork). So today I had pelvic, transvaginal and abdominal ultrasounds and my PCP referred me to an OBGYN (I have an appointment on Monday). Should she have referred me to an Endo? or a reproductive Endo? Should I still go to the OBGYN?
I'm a bit overwhelmed and also on info overload, but I want to make sure I'm doing the right things.
My obgyn diagnosed me and he's keeping me for now. Who you get referred to varies. It really depends on the dr's knowledge of pcos. So I'd just ask a lot of questions. If the dr seems knowledgable about the disorder and confident they can treat it, I think it's fine. My obgyn seems to have a lot of experience treating pcos.
I was diagnosed in May and I was soooo overwhelmed. But these boards really improved my learning curve. My dr actually sent me here. I went off bcp the end of July 2006 and everything was fine till the first of this year. Then my cycles got longer and longer. That was my dr's first clue something was amiss. I'm just glad he didn't just sit on it and tell me that irregular cycles happen to everyone.
Since you went off of bcp, i take it you're ttc. You should visit the ttc board. There are lots of great threads there and you can join in any of them!!
Good luck and feel free to PM me with any questions!

Hello and welcome and you have found a wonderful support system. Did your obgyn give you a reson for referring you out?? Like in a pp it could be that they arent very knowledgable about PCOS, honestly it may be a good idea I wasted my time for almost 4 years with 3 different OBGYNs and I am now seeing a RE who is getting me the treatment I need. I truly hope that you get the help you need and everything goes well!!!
Especially if you are TTC, you should go to an RE. Don't waste your time with a gyno.

AprilA7, I have a question for you. Does your doctor consider your p4 level to be low? I've had p4 tested on 5 medicated cycles and always ranged from 1 to 8.8 at max. Most posters have higher p4 on medicated cycles and doctors will say below 10 is too low. My RE's(both) consider my numbers to be normal. ??
