Hi, I am new to this board, and new to PCOS. I have a lengthy history of hormonal issues and it feels like it is finally being pulled altogether by my Endo and PCP. Gradual weight gain over the years, miscarriages, 2 beautiful healthy children, one with help from a Reproductive Endo and follistim, IUI, hair issues, acne with periods, heavy, nasty periods with cramping etc. I look back at old pictures of myself in highschool and college, and was wearing bikini's etc, it is so frustrating, and I don't want to wear a bikini, but wouldn't mind not feeling sheepish going to the beach, I love the beach! Ok, I am rambling, on to my question, my labwork showed a higher insulin level, just under the limit of 17, and I want to know, does that mean that Met might help me loose weight? I have been reading that just b/c you are PCOS doesn't mean necessarily that the Met will help you loose weight. I have been going to Curves, I feel better with energy, but no weight loss. I just started Weight Watchers this week, I just got my prescription filled today, I am so hoping that the combination of Curves, WW, and Met will finally help me to lose the weight, it is so uncomfortable!! Do you wanna hear something strange, I actually lost about 25 pounds in the days immediately following our daughters births, both times, only to gain it all and then some back within the first 3 months of their lives. I know this was long, but I am hoping someone can help me with insight to this new and frustrating diagnosis. Thanks for your time, Holly
Welcome Holly,
With me Met made me VERY SICK, however during that time i lost almost 20 lbs on it. So yeah it helped but, i was just so sick, and working in an ER, you can just be running back to the bathroom all the time. I hope it works for you.... good luck and welcome to SC

I've been taking Metformin for a few months now, and while I haven't seen much weight loss, I have at least stopped gaining. When I work out on a somewhat regular basis, I can lose weight with the Metformin, but my problem is that I can't maintain an exercise program. Good luck to you.
Deb

Hi DebHvyMetl, tell me about having a hard time finding regular time to excercise. I try and get out 3 times a week, but depending on everyone's schedule here and if there is a cold in the house, that can throw a wrench in everything. Thanks for the response though, and I took my first dose last night and was amazed that I didn't want a snack at all after dinner and fel quite full all evening!! Thanks again, Holly
