Hi ladies,
I'm a newbie here. I've been on 1500mg of met xr for about 10 months. My new RE switched me to regular metformin. I started at 500mg and be building up to 2000mg a day. Now here is my question: Is there a huge difference between the xr version and the regular one?

From what I understand, based on what I've read here, they're the exact same drug, except the XR is time released so that you take your dosage once a day and the drug is released into your system over the course of the day. For this reason, many people find that it's easier on the system. Taking regular Met. with doses taken several times during the day will do essentially the same thing, but some have difficulties with it and are switched over to XR to allievate difficult side effects.
