Hi there, just got diagnosed last friday with PCOS after a year or so of, "what's wrong with me?"
In Oct. 07, I had my daughter by c-section and periods resumed quite irregularily. Finally in May had a 60 day HEAVY period and called the Dr. He did an u/s and determined I needed a D&C because of think lining. I also had to see a hematologist because I was 1 point above transfusion from the blood loss. Periods never really got regulated like they hoped, still infrequent and when they did come the were ridiculously heavy. Put on progesterone 14 days a month to "jump start" my system. That didn't work either.
A girl I work with mentioned that her friend had problems and she ended up with PCOS. That was the first I had heard of it. I went online and as I read the symptoms I started to think, "this is it, this is me." I had most of the symptoms, I am blessed to not have the hair growth yet. I called the nurse and asked if they could test me for PCOS. SHe scheduled another u/s and called the next day and said, "you were right, it is PCOS." and started me on Metformin.
So now I am just trying to deal with all this, I am glad I found this board, so far it has been such a great help with all the information and the personal experience!
CONGRATULATIONS on your self-diagnosis!!! IT'S PCOS - (unfortunately for us, right?)
Welcome to the site. you did a great job of starting your treatment ball rolling. A lot of ppl don't find out for yrs. By then you already might have a full facial beard...or close to one. You really have to stay on top of it. In my exp., most dr's will give u a pill and send you on your way for several months. I'm sure you'll get yours under control!
