I want to start by saying thank goodness for the internet and then thank goodness for this website. I am so happy to have found this site. I have finally been diagnosed with PCOS in August. I am 24 and have a 3 year old daughter. I was on the Pill for about a year after giving birth and then my husband and I decided to have another child.
As you probably guessed, I haven't gotten a period since then. I recently viewed my medical chart and I went to the doctor in June of 2005 with complaints of no periods...I wish I would have been diagnosed back then. I gained about 15 pounds during pregnancy and 25-30 since then! I had been in denial because I have never really been over weight before all of this. But after going to the doctors this past year, I found that I gained 9 pounds in 2 months. I was completely shocked. I had given up on all soft drinks, not even diet. I never eat cookies or candy like I used to. But finally after using search engines, I have read that many people with PCOS cannot lose weight even with diet and exercise. I have read to eat low-cal, then low-fat, and most sites say low-carb. It is all too confusing. I have almost every symptom of PCOS except acne! I am thankful for that at least.
It is so scary having high blood pressure at such a young age. I feel that even if I do get pregnant that I or my child wouldn't survive due to the high blood pressure (I am sure we would be okay with diet, etc. but the anxiety is overwhelming).
I guess I am just finally out of any denial (knowing there is a cause) since being diagnosed. It's hard to be a young newly wed, with a young child, and your heart races when you go up a flight of stairs...not being able to give your husband another child, and of course, trying to keep your marriage/sex life positive when you feel horrible about yourself. I am embarrassed sometimes (more or less, let down with myself) because people look at me and think I am pregnant.
I am glad to have found this site- I can now read stories of others and know that I am not alone! I hope to find help with diet and medications.
Thanks for reading my story!
