Default Newbie seeking advice

Hi all, I am so glad I found this site and would love some advice from the experts.

I have recently been diagnosed with possible PCOS. The ultrasound shows cysts on my ovaries, plus my hormones are out of balance. In particular my testosterone is elevated and my LH/FSH ration is 3:1 (measured 1 day before my period). I have not measured my glucose tolerance or insuline resistance yet, and will do so tomorrow.

I am 180 cms tall and 63 kgs in weight. So you could say I'm quite thin and have always been all my life without trying. In fact I went through the stage in my life when I tried to gain weight but it would just accumulate around my belly and now I know why!!

I have a little bit of hair on my chin which I pluck out and I still get pimples even though I'm 32. I wouldn't call them acne as there are only a few there at a time.

I do get my periods every month though. They come anywhere between 28 to 32 days. I went through a stage in my life when they were a lot more erratic than that. But I can't recall ever missing my period all together (I did get it twice in a month occassionally). But in the last 2-3 years they became stable. I don't know if I ovulate though. I followed my cervical mucus this month, and around day 17 it was quite stretchy. But I haven't measured my temperature.

In saying that, I bought an e-book recently called PCOS and Infertility, which recommends a diet that eliminates all sugar, wheat, carbs, etc. So a couple of weeks ago I started on that. Has anyone tried dieting even though you're thin? Has it helped? I also take vitex and fish oil. I am not in favour of taking drugs and do want to try and control this naturally.

Of course my main concerns are infertility and diabetes. My partner and I haven't started trying yet but I am thinking more and more that we should sooner rather than later.

While every woman is different, a really good place to start is cutting out all simple sugars/carbs from your diet. Up the protein, and cut out sugars. Eat 6 meals a day. Real the insulin resistance diet book. It's so helpful. It's a pain in the butt to follow the diet, but it works. It really works. We've all messed up our bodies by eating too much refined sugar, which has given us PCOS. To get back on track we have to eat healthy and exercise regularly. It sounds so simple, yet it's hard when it's not our habits. Good luck!

Yes, do try the diet route. It's so important. Cut out refined sugars. You'll notice a major improvement in how you feel within 1 week. Look at the insulin resistance diet.
