Default Newbie with some questions - long

Hi,

I'm new so apologies if a lot of this has been posted or answered before.

I was diagnosed with PCOS 6 years ago after 6 months of going back and forward to the doctor to investigate sudden weight gain. I was initially prescribed Metformin which seemed to work well for me for about 18 months. I never managed to lose huge amounts of weight and eventually felt that Metformin was becoming ineffective. A new doctor (I had moved to a new city) suggested Diannette which unfortunately made me very emotional and a little bit crazy! I made the choice to come off Diannette and try to control PCOS through diet and exercise. This wasn't particularly successful but I stuck with it for a few years.

However, now my weight has slowly crept up again and the symptoms of PCOS (particularly heavy and painful periods) are getting worse. I'm now the heaviest I've ever been and quite depressed about it. I've tried a combination of WeightWatchers and the gym but haven't lost a pound in over 3 months. The doctor (another new city - new doctor) suggested weight loss drug which a week later was withdrawn from the market! I really feel like I'm getting nowhere and wondered if anyone had some advice?

The various doctors in my new practice tend to ask me what I want to do. I obviously don't have a clue and their manner makes me feel like I'm wasting their time. It's been a few years since I researched PCOS techniques and medication so I'd like to be slightly better informed.

Has anyone had any experience of going back to Metformin after a few years break? AS it's the only thing that has ever helped I'm drawn towards this option. Or is there something new I can ask my doctor about?

Sorry it's so long, thanks for reading this far!

Hi Eva,

Thanks for the reply - I would never have thought of asking that question but I definitely will at my next appointment!

thats ok. I have found the endo better than a general gp - even though the gp i have now is lovely.
