Hi everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I will have been married to a wonderful man for 7 years in March and we have a beautiful 5 year old daughter. I was diagnosed with PCOS 6 years ago, but I have had the classic symptoms since I was 13. Like most of you my doctors dismissed this as being normal. All I ever heard was that if I would just lose weight that I would be fine. I desperately tried everything known to man to lose weight and nothing worked except the extreme low carb diet. But then I gained it back just as soon as the first piece of white bread hit my lips. I have had a mustache since puberty (black hair of course) around the age of 17 I started noticing hair on my chin and I developed the skin tags on my thighs and under my arms I also weighed about 190lbs. so my mother took me to the dr. and of course he told me to lose weight, but I never could. About 8 years ago I read an article in a Family Circle magazine about PCOS and tore it out and carried it with me to the dr. and he said that it wasn't a real disorder and that all of it could be solved once again if I would just lose the weight. Then he gave me a copy of the book Sugar Busters and told me to follow it or I would be dead by the time I was 40. Needless to say I fired him and found an internal med. dr. who knew about PCOS and what she didn't know she found out for me. So like most of you I am just dealing with the maintenance side of things now. I have really enjoyed your site and all of the posts, it is just nice to not be alone in this.
Good for you for finding a new doctor. Looking forward to seeing you around.
Angie
