Default A newbie to Spiro ... what can I expect?

Hi all,
I was dx in Feb last year and have been on 2500 mg Met and 30 mg Actos a day since then. Among the other symptoms, I suffer from severe hairloss on my scalp. My endo now prescribed Spiro to help this - I am sure there's somebody out there who can help and tell me what to expect. Does it really work? How long do I have to wait to see results? I just read an article that said that Spiro helps 80% of women with hirsutism. Further down in the article, it was stated that it can CAUSE scalp hairloss, which totally freaked my out.

Does any of you have experience with this? I would really like some peace of mind ... do I need to go buy a wig soon? I would really appreciate some help ... thanks!

Hi Eva,
did you have hairloss problems also - and how did Spiro help you?
Heck, for now I'd settle for SOME result, if at least I could see some hair sprouting, I'd have confidence that it would continue to grow further down the line and that I would have enough hair to cover my scalp ...

I was given spiro to help lessen the excessive body hair. I was on it for 3 years. I didn't notice much help from it for the thinning head hair. My doctor took me off the spiro earlier this year because I'm ttc and it can cause some sort of genital defect. I use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner for the thinning hair though and it seems to be helping a little.
