Hello,
I am in my early 20's. I've had PCOS probably for years now, Insulin Resistance developed in my childhood. I am devastated by the diagnosis, and I desparate for medical attention. Does anyone know of a good reproductive endoctrinologist in the GTA (Ontario, Canada, that is) that you don't have to wait for 5 months to get an appointment for? I really really really need a Met/Gluco prescription before these problems spiral out of control. I am extremely saddened by my future fertility problems. Thanks in advance.
Hi Welcome to SC glad you found us. Go to the Find a Doctor at the top of the screen. I hope you find one that will do wonders. Contact me if you wish. See you around.

Hi dpure, I am Kelley (dreamy28, but I'm really 30) and I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I see a "regular" endocrinologist -- her name is Dr. Elaine Stone. You can find out her details on www.cpso.on.ca - she is in West Toronto, off Bloor Street near Dundas West subway station. I see her once a year and to be honest, she is the type of doctor that is always behind and will keep you waiting in her office. My "record wait" for her was 2.5 hours. So if you do get in to see her, bring a book.
I also saw Dr. Robert Casper (before Dr. Stone) and he works out of Mt. Sinai hospital I think and he has a clinic at Avenue Road and Bloor. It is the Toronto Centre for Advanced Reproductive Technology or something like that. I didn't like him too much and he wouldn't prescribe me anything other than a $500 per month medication which did nothing anyway. Dr. Stone prescribed me Metformin and Sprionolactone straight away and she is very thorough with blood work and everything.
Welcome to Soulcysters dpure, and good luck with your search to find an Endocrinologist. Feel free to e-mail me anytime at ilovethesmiths@hotmail.com
~dreamy28 (but really 30) a.k.a. Kelley
p.s. Oh and on the www.cpso.on.ca you can also do a search for an Endocrinologist that is accepting new patients... just click on the Doctor Search tab at the top.
Welcome dpure,
I too am from Toronto though I am currently on vacation in SanFrancisco. I am 25 and have been having a difficult time with PCOS in the last few years.
I do not recommend that you go to TCART to see Dr. Casper though they have a short wait. They have done things that may have jeopardized our chances of ttc as well lied to us(told us we didn't have a male factor when we do) and done things that are very questionable(half of my file has mysteriously disppeared). Then again everyone is different and TCART might be a wonderful clinic for you.
Many clinics do have cancellation lists so you may want to call around and see if you can get into a clinic sooner that way.
That is what I am doing to get into see another RE sooner.
If you need anyone to talk to feel free to send me a pm.
Welcome again.
Thank you for the replies, everyone...I was starting to worry that I wasn't loved thanks for the heads up on the clinic not to go to...actually, I'm trying to get an appt. w/ another RE at Mt. Sinai right now, but she's got a 4 month waiting list apparently, and her office still hasn't returned my calls. Is the entire clinic at Mt. Sinai bad or just that one Doctor? I really need a Met prescription, so maybe I'll just try w/ Dr. Stone. I hate being at the mercy of Dr.'s! Thank you again everyone.
HI Welcome to SC!!! If you ever need anything feel free to PM me anytime!!!

I am curious about your experience at TCART. I stopped going as I got an odd feeling about Dr. C and his "crew" as I called them. If you wouldn't mind sharing some more, I'd love to know your experience.
Also for a Met/Gluco prescription you do not need to see an RE for it, you can go directly to your family physican or Gyn and explain your needs for it. I find that most doctors are becoming increasing knowledgeable about positive effects of Met/Gluco and they would most likely prescribe it while you wait to for an RE.
Hey, Im 20 years old from Toronto...I sent u an email but Ill try here too...I see an amazing doctor at Sunnybrook, her name is Dr. Ivy Fettes, she specializes in this and has been the only one who has helped me, im on the right medication and i also saw a dietician in toronto who has changed my life and I have lost all the weight I gained...Im down from 151lbs to 123lbs and I started the plan on Sept7, 2004 and today is dec 2 and im SO happy...ask anything u want.
Hi dpure,
I am new to all of this, but my family doctor was quite happy to prescribe Metformin to me. Just started this week. She had recently been to a seminar on PCOS. I am not ttc so perhaps the issues are different. My diagnosis is likely PCOS but not absolute. My biggest problem is struggling with my weight & missed periods - some other annoying PCOS symptoms too. My blood work is all very good. One male hormone higher than another, but still suppposedly normal. Anyhow, she is calling me her guinea pig, as she hadn't yet tried anyone on Met that wasn't diabetic. I have one beautiful daughter(she's 11). Had a couple of miscarriages before her. I'm 38 and not planning to try again. We'll see how things go. Is there any chance your family Doctor would prescribe Met for you?
Thank you all for your feedback. Unfortunetely, my GP REFUSES to give me a Met prescription - even though I was near TEARS asking for one. She said that Met was ONLY for diabetics, and since I was not diabetic, she would absolutely NOT prescribe it. I explained that I was insulin resistant, but I don't think she beleived me - she thought I ate cake and pie all day and that's why I always struggled with my weight (I have been on a STRICT low carb diet for 3 years!!) GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! So, unfortuntely, getting a Rx for Met will not come from my family Dr. maybe i should switch to one of your family drs?
Oh dpure I am so sad that your doctor said that to you. What a beyotch she is! Where abouts in the city do you live? I see a family doctor who is met-friendly and I could give you her number. She lets Dr. Stone prescribe my met for me but if I didn't see Dr. Stone, she would probably give it to me.
