Default ~*The "Newfie" Cysterhood*~/*~May 2007~*

Hi there,

We are a group of cysters from Newfoundland who have found a bond with each other through being gals with PCOS and being from"The Rock".

A few of us have been around for ages and some of us have just started to get to know one another.

We are open and accepting of all fellow Newfoundlanders and Labradorians living in the Province or those who have, like so many others, found themselves in some other part of the country for employment and other opportunities.

So.....to our regular girls......Welcome to our new thread for May of 2007.....and .....if you are a Newfie, are related to a Newfie or even just know a "good ole" Newfie.....pull up a seat and let's get to know each other!

Hi Ladies,

Congrats on the new car Erdine. Hope all is well with everyone. Today I had my Sonohysterogram test done..... talk about uncomfortable. The doctor told me that I do have poly cystic ovaries. I find out all results from all the test that she did for the investigative phase of fertility treatment and pcos on Monday the 7th. I'm looking forward to the appointment, however I'm nervous at the same time. Thinking that I may have pcos and knowing I have pcos are two different things. I just hope that this week will move along fast.

Take care everyone,

Tracy

Hi everyone. I just got home from my dr. Oh boy whaty a app i had. She did a transvaginal ultrasound and found my lining was thick with that news and the fact i has spotting every now and then she decided that she needed to do the fun endometrial biopsy. While she was doing the ultrasound she notice that around my right ovary i had a nice bit of fluid. So that pain i had not long ago was from a rupture cyst. I got my bloodwork results back. The gtt showed that i am glucose intolerant not quite at the diabetic range yet though. She wants me to lose 10 pounds as by her scale i was 150. Luckily i am off work today so i cna rest and live on my pain meds. I got to go back to her next yr

Hi Ladies,

I've been formally dx as having pcos. I'm on Metformin 500mg, 3x per day She wants me to take a half of pill 2x per day and slowly increase dose to 3x a (full pill) per day. We also found out that there is a male factor in our fertility issues. My dh has low sperm count and motility issues. We go back to dr on June 11th for more results regarding my dh. If the new sa is the same as the last one than she said icis will have to be our treatment plan.

Lisa -- OUCH! That must have been fun...the transvaginal u/s is bad enough but having the biopsy done as well must have been awful...I'm glad you had the day off to relax after. I hope you are feeling better.

Tracy -- I agree with your MD to gradually take the Metformin to reduce the side effects. My MD told me to do the same thing and I didn't have a whole lot of problems with it. Can you have ICSI done in your region of Canada or would you have to go to another city/province for treatment?

How was everyone's weekend? Hope all is well!

Hey LAdies!
Tracy - what ICIS? Ya I agree w/ your Dr and HoneyChild, gradually work on taking Metformin. I still can't take the stuff.. the meds made me feel sick and instead of getting better, I was feeling crapper (sp?). Each med works differetly for everyone. Is sperm count very low? I friend of mine.. her Dh has a sperm count issue.. basiclaly the dr could only find 2-5 "good" alive sperm. Where as the "normal" male has a lot more. Let us know how it goes o.k.

Lisa, take it easy! Is it that much of a wait home for the dr's apt. Or it just 'cause it's a yearly check-up? I hate those Transvaginal u/s.

I have to do a transvaginal ultrasound everyday i visit my infertility clinic. There is one ultra sound tech that I hate getting. She drrives that ultrasound probe (or whatever U called it) up into me so fast and it not gental at all when moving the probe around inside. This am I almost grabbed that probe and placed it down her throat. But anyway it's all worth it...in the end.

We should be going for IUI in the next wk (maybe even in the next few days) or so. *Wish me luck* There are 3 folli's (as of this am) - 2.0cm, 1.5cm and 1.3cm. The Dr is hoping that the smaller 2 will grow w/ a "burst" of enery and be around 1.8cm or larger.

I'll keep in touch
Happy Monday!

I only goes to my RE once a year now. But if i has any issues i can call her and get in fast. Which is great. I had to call into work sick this morning as i still got pain from the biopsy. I forgot how painful they are. Hopefully tomorrow i be able to go back to work. But where i am still spotting from the test i decide it was best to stay home and rest.

Tracy i agree with the other about slowy upping your dose of met. I did that way and had no problems at all with gastro problem. The only effects i had from the met are postive ones

Hi Ladies,

ICSI, is intracytoplasmic sperm injection, it is when they put the sperm directly into the egg. It is another level up from ivf. My dh's sperm count is low and motility is poor so dr is sending him for scrotum u/s on tuesday. He also has to provide another sa. If that one has same results as the first than the dr said next step for us should be the ivf with icsi. I've been ready a little about it and im a little worried about the birth defects associated with the procedure. If anyone can give me some info I would greatly apprectiate it. The clinic that I go to in Markham does the procedure so that is good if I decide to go through with it. We find out all my dh's results on the 11th of June so I guess whe will decide what to do then.

Lisa, Im sorry to hear that u r still in pain.

So far no effects on metformin.... crossing my fingers that i dont get any.

Hey all! Again, I am sorry I haven't been around, but I was on the road with Steve again.
Good news for me though, Steve bought me a new SUV yesterday, so much for getting a small car because the truck uses so much fuel...lol
