Smile Newly diagnosed...

Hi everyone
I am 24 years old and was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago. My periods are crazy long-more than 7 days (sometimes all month!), my cycles long and insulin is high. I am glad to put a name to some of these random symptoms I have had for years. Who knew you aren't suppose to feel dizzy, cranky and weak before/after eating? I didn't! Who knew terrible PMS and random cramping during the month wasn't normal? Not me!
Just want to see what other gals are going through and get some advice.

Should I go to an endocrinologist or a reproductive endo? (Not ttc yet, but want to start in next couple of years)
Is losing weight really the best for me? (I am normal BMI, 5' tall 118lb)
My insulin is high, but my glucose is normal range (higher end of normal)-what the h does that mean?

Thanks ladies and I look forward to getting to know some of my soulcystas!

Welcome to SC!

I personally don't think it matters what kind of doctor you see, as long as he/she is knowledgeable about PCOS. I currently see an OB/GYN because my REs were always jerks. An RE would be a good place to start, but beware they might not want to treat you if you aren't TTC.

Losing weight is a good idea for anyone, PCOS or not! It can help alleviate some of your symptoms and cut down your general risk for things like heart disease.

When your insulin is high, that would usually mean you're Insulin Resistant. If you find a new doctor, they probably would (or at least should) discuss the possibility of using insulin sensitizers like Metformin to treat your symptoms, as well as a change of diet.

Any endo is a good thing, provided they know what PCOS is and how to treat it.

High insulin but normal glucose means that you are Insulin Resistant, but not Type II diabetic, I believe.
