Default Newly Diagnosed

Hi everyone. My name is Tasha, 23, married to John, 26. I've always had some PCOS-like problems: hormonal acne that has gotten worse, weight gain from puberty on which has also only gotten worse, dark hair growth, etc. My other has also had both ovaries removed in two emergency surgeries, one at 16 and the other in the past six months. When my irregular periods (21-22 days one month, 41-44 days the next,) lengthened out to 53 days and I began experiencing pelvic pain and a general worsening of symptoms, I went to my friend's OBGYN and was diagnosed through ultrasound.

I'm starting Metformin this week, and am very excited. I also plan to pick up The Insulin Resistance Diet book. I'm 280 now, and was happiest at 200. I can use all the support I can get. We hope to TTC in the next year.

Long story short, my doctor just told me that he's not going to prescribe me metformin, that the cure to the disease is diet and excerise and I should focus on that.. even though I've been morbidly obese since 9 or 10..

I feel so exasperated and let down..

Welcome!!!! I am new here to. I was diagnosed about a year ago but just now trying to gather the info and the knowledge I need to manage this. Is that even possible? Can anyone tell me what Metformin is? I'm just taking YAZ, Cinnamon and a number of supplements of vitamins and minerals. Also what is the diet you mentioned? I wish you the best of luck!!!!
