Hi everyone. I'm 35 and I've been recently diagnosed with PCOS. My doctor wants to test my glucose etc in January and if it is high (it's currently 5.8) she wants to start me on Metformin. Just wondering if anyone has any advice that they can share with me about their experience with PCOS. Did you find that changing your diet and increasing exercise helped? Also, has anyone followed the Low GI way of eating and did it help manage their PCOS. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I love the concept of Low GI eating - not too many strict rules about counting carbs etc and you should notice your energy levels improve reasonably quickly.
By eating well I can maintain my weight, its when I boost the exercise that i start to shed the weight.
Metformin and its side effects can be hard going to begin with(You might want to check out the Metformin forum), but if you can stick with it and complement it with the right foods and exercise you'll find life is so much easier!

Thanks for the advice. I found a great book called Low GI Eating and PCOS (or something like it). It's fantastic. Lost 3 kgs this week and still going!

We have a home gym - treadmill, exercise bike, gym ball, punching bag and weights centre. I use the bike and the treadmill everyday. I use the weights most days or I alternate them with the gym ball and punching bag. I also do "boxing" type training with the gloves and mitts. My husband is qualified to write training programs and he has done one for me. I thought I would hate it but it's quite the opposite. I can't wait to get home after work and do a session of some kind. I have just started back at work after 6 months off (had a stress related "meltdown") and doing a session every afternoon helps me to sleep better at night as well. I've found that the exercise combined with low GI eating is fantastic. It's easy to follow and stick to and more importantly - it works!
Wow, that is amazing, and you are so lucky to have a qualified PT at home!
