Question Newly Diagnosed-Bleeding Question

Hello,
I am very glad to have found this forum. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. I haven't had a period since 7/15. I am scheduled to go to the doctor on 10/19 to get medication to help me ovulate. I am also trying to conceive. I have lots of questions but my immediate question is about bleeding/periods with PCOS.

Since 7/15, I haven't had a period at all. No spotting, no cramps, no sign of a period at all. A few days ago, I noticed "something" when I went to the bathroom. It's not red blood but has more of the look of darker, older blood that you'd have on the last day of your period. It's been several days now. It's still there yet I haven't had a full fledged period (no red blood, etc).

It seems my body is trying to do something but I don't know what. Would any kind of "blood-like" discharge be indicative of ovulation even if it's not a typical period? (I recently had an ultrasound and don't have any cysts, fibroids, etc that may cause bleeding). I don't know if I should let the doc put me on hormones if my body is trying to do something on its own.

Any feedback would be great! Thanks!!
Amanda

It sounds like your body is trying to get rid of the old blood that's been sitting there for a couple months, but it needs some help. It could indicate that your body is TRYING to ovulate, but often with PCOS, we are estrogen-dominant, so there's not enough Progesterone to trigger ovulation. Something you might try is natural progesterone cream (NPC). Use the NPC for about 2 weeks, and then stop and see if your period comes. It might come while you are using the NPC, and if it does, stop then. If you don't get full AF after 2 weeks, wait 2 weeks and try it again for 2 weeks (usually a tube will last long enough to do that). Because it hasn't been THAT long since you had AF, (some have gone years), it should help. You can use it up to 21 days in a row (3 weeks) to bring on AF, but don't use it longer than that, and go at least 7 days between uses. I don't think you'll need to worry about that, though.

You can use it regularly to help keep AF regular... it might help with TTC, too, since it gives your body extra progesterone, which is what induces pregnancy. It is a plant source, so your body will only use what it needs.

I hope you find this helpful! If you are interested, this is the progesterone cream I use personally, and is the best in my opinion, but there are others that are good, too: http://www.mynsp.com/naherbs/product...?StockNum=4936
