Hello!! I am SO glad to see such a wonderful support community!
After YEARS of people/doctors/sig.others telling me I was crazy, I have FINALLY found the answer to my problem(s)---PCOS.
In high school I had problems with cycts on my ovaries popping and causing immense pain in my abdomen from the fluid but I never got checked beyond that. Then, in 2003, I started slowly losing all of my thick, luscious curly hair. Today, it is whisper thin and still falling out. The crazy thing is that is the only physical characteristic I have of PCOS. My thyroid has been tested to death (I'm fine), I've never had irregular periods (only heavy), I've never had a problem with acne (I may get one pimple around that time of the month), never had excessive hair or weight gain. I'm pretty normal---5'7" and 140lbs. The diagnosis came after a dermatologist found a high level of free testosterone and an ultrasound confirmed the many cysts. I do have hypoglycemia and had a miscarraige at 16 weeks.
Is there anyone out there like me who only has the hair loss physical characteristic? If so, does it ever grow back????
I don't have the hairloss (or if i do, I don't notice cause I have so much of it to begin with) My only real external symptom is mild acne. (and I don't have that right now... seems to get better while I'm nursing). I do have irregular cycles though and difficulty concieving (although don't know if I can really say that now that I have 3 kids!) and cysts in my ovaries.
hi courtpye-
you came to the right place. this site is awesome and the ladies on here have lots of experience and share lots of knowledge.
there are lots of thin cysters. the symptoms really do vary by individual. excess testosterone impacts us in different ways, unfortunately hair loss is one of them. i don't have that issue but have excess hair growth and some acne. i was on BCP's for years so my symptoms were mild through my mid-20's. as far as your questions, once the testosterone is treates the hair should grow back, i would think, provided that the hair follicle is not damaged.

It's funny because my doctor is SHOCKED that I have PCOS. She says it seems so unlikely given my symptoms (or lack thereof). Strange. I'm being sent to an endochrinologist to rule out anything else, though.
