Newly diagnosed here

Hi this is Nikky. This is my first time posting on this board. A short bio of how I got here. My 30 year old husband and I have been trying to conceive for a year with no luck. As soon as I got off the bcp in May 2007, I started piling up weight overnight. To date, I have gained almost 50 pounds. I've always had long cycles but they are now far and few between. Facial hair became darker while is seemed like my hair was limper. I went to 2 different doctors who wrote it off as stress from ttc. Lab work showed that I had low progesterone, did not ovulate but still no answers. We did 2 cycles of clomid. Finally last week, I had enough and drove over 100 miles to visit my old family doctor who ran several blood test and diagnosed me with PCOS. It all makes sense now. I haven't had a period in 43 days and counting.She prescribed metformin 500mg 2xday. Side effects keep me in the bathroom! I am thinking about going back on BCP just to lose this weight! I could go on forever here.

PCOS is a bummer... Huh? I have every PCOS symptom in the text book. I would gain and loose weight very easily. The longest time I was skinny was 2001 to 2003 then I got pregnant. I changed from head to toe.

Met makes me sick as well... I honestly did not think it would happen to me. But, I got really sick anyway.

Try to be careful about your food intake... Try a low GI or IR diet. Start walking, take your meds. Just treat yourself like a princess (my body is my temple).

Let me know how you are doing. Take good care of yourself.

Keep coming back, the women here are very inspiring.

Thanks. Its just a relief to finally have closure on whats been plaguing me. We realized that its more important for me to get healthy than have a baby now. Along with the PCOS, I have been experiencing severe depression that accompanied the weight gain. I've been on this board a few minutes and can't wait to know you all better

i understand Nikky...for year since i was 16 i have had irregular cycles and no one checked anything..then i was searching about TTC and thought about asking my dr. about that and she did a ultrasound and took blood..the ultrasound let her know that i had PCOS..which was a relief for me..so she gave me provera to start and then i'll do clomid...i have heard taking prenatal pills can help with the side effects.
