Wink Newly Diagnosed (Long)

Hi Everyone

I've just recently found this site and it seems very extensive and informative so far.
A little about me...I am 24, married, 2 children ages 6 and 2. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. I have most of the classic symptoms...severe acne, very irregular periods, slight hair issues. I don't consider myself overweight but have gained about 10 lbs just recently. Pregnancy was a horrible time for me, I was very very sick with both of them, so I decided to have my tubes tied. That was at age 21.
I thought my periods would even out after my children but it just got worse. I have been back and forth with doctors trying to figure out what was wrong. My primary sent me for a vaginal u/s which came back stating that there was a 'possiblity of policystic ovarian disease'. My primary sent me to a gyn/fertility specialist who my primary doc swore by....supposed to be the greatest doctor at this kind of stuff. All that he did was take one look at the u/s results and said 'OK you are diagnosed with PCOS'.****without doing ANY tests***** He then put me on MANY different types of birth control but they all made me very sick. I would still be throwing up from the previous day when it was time to take the next one. After dealing with this idiot for about 7 months, he finally said that if I can't take birth control, that he couldn't do anything. This was just something I would have to deal with for the rest of my life.
I accepted that for a while until my periods got unbearable again. I went for a second opinion. This doctor is awesome. He did all of the proper tests and showed me everything that is going on down there with the ultrasound. My ovaries are completely covered in cysts. I have a retroverted uterus that has made my bladder descended and I my veins down there are like varicose veins (all enlarged and twisted up like a telephone cord) Needless to say, got a whole lotta issues down there. The doc is willing to do a hysterectomy (to take the uterus out)to deal with the bleeding which is great news for me. He is also giving me accutane for the acne. The hair issue, I'll have deal with but I'm ok with that.
I feel like I finally have some control over my PCOS.
Thanks for reading my story.

Does anyone else have pain from retroverted uterus also?

Welcome to SC and good luck sorting things out, I'm glad you got a second opinion because that first doctor was obviously an idiot. Check if your insulin levels and glucose tolerance were tested, you need to see if you're insulin resistant too. Insulin resistance usually causes PCOS, not the other way around, so modifying your diet or taking metformin can clear up alot of symptoms.

I'm not sure about your uterus, I think mine is anteverted which sounds like the opposite of yours. But if you're definitely finished having kids (sounds like it with your tubes tied and all!) taking it out seems reasonable, although of course it won't help your PCOS symptoms because it's a hormonal condition, and the hormones are all still there.
