Question Newly diagnosed, questions

I am a newly diagnosed type II diabetic. Apparently my blood sugar is very well controlled, I had a great A1C. I do not test my blood sugar, I guess my doctor thinks it isn't necessary, I am just trying to control with diet and lose weight, plus I take Metformin. My doctor says if I lose a little weight that may make it "go away."

First is that possible, for diabetes to go away? Apparently I am just barely diabetic.

Also do I need a medical alert bracelet?

Thanks for your help!

From what I know it doesn't just go away. Once you have it, you have it. Some doctors claim Weight Loss Surgery cures it but I dont even think that is true. Losing weight is definatley good anyway. The more controlled the diabetes the less likely for long term damage from high sugars.

I am also diabetic and I dont wear a bracelet. I've considered getting one but I am not on any meds so I thought it was more for that. I dont know. Hopefully someone else can answer that for both of us lol!

Good luck!

My doctor told me that once you have it, it doesn't go away, but you can put it into remission via weight loss and diet control.

Apparantly, I am also just barely diabetic. After my initial diagnosis, I got serious about my health and lost 40 pounds (unfortunatly, I still have about 50 to go). My diabetes has been in remission ever since.

I also do not wear a bracelet. I kind of assume that is for people who need insulin and/or medication (other than Met).

Best of luck to you!

I wear a medical alert bracelet and have since I was dx. When I was first dx, I was controlled with diet and exercise. My A1C kept climbing, so I was sent to see and endo. He put me on met, then added byetta and then levemir. I wear a bracelet that says I am type 2, what I am allergic to and an emergency phone number to call. its good to wear one in case you pass out people will know what to do to help you.

Thats a good point. I didnt think of that. I've had problems with REALLY low blood sugar(37 was my lowest) and I could pass out. I should get a bracelet....piece of mind.
