Newly diagnosed, What have your experiances been??
I am recently diagnosed hypothyroid. I am just wondering what your experiances have been since you have been treating your thyroid condition. Did you feel better, lose weight, increased energy??
Thanks

I was diagnosed in 1998 and remember what the adjustment was like. I am currently on .05mg of Levoxyl.
Sorry to say the weight did not fly off my body. I do feel better since taking my meds though. No more brain fog and lethargy. I had some hair loss at first and my thyroid was a bit swollen but after I got regulated (it took me about 6 months) things improved.
oh, and my hair grew back.
One thing to remember, once you start a certain brand of medication - try to stay with that brand. I've heard from several people that if you switch brands that it is not a good thing to do. I did it once - I switched from Levoxyl to armour (armour is a natural med as compared to the sythetics like Levoxyl or Synthroid) and found that I should have stuck with what I started with.
I remember feeling much better. It took me two yrs. to lose the 35 pounds I had gained prior to diagnosis. The edema in my face and hands went away immediately and my memory & equilibrium improved. Good luck, Becky
Generally I feel better. I haven't had much luck taking off the weight though. You'll learn that you'll have to put 2 times the effort that most people do to take it off, but it's possible. I'm not as tired as I used to be. Just be careful of being over-medicated or under-medicated. I'm dealing with 4-5 migraines a week right now because of being under-medicated. Good luck!

Thanks for all of the comments!! I am noticing that I am not as tired and that I wake up easier in the morning. I do notice that my hair is falling out. I am having blood work done in a few weeks so we will see how things look.
