Hi everyone! I was diagnosed with PCOS in Dec 2006. I don't think I really believed it until Feb 2007. So, now I am trying to find out all I can, but I don't even know where to start. So, I guess I will start here.
I am 31 years old. I had regular periods up until and continuing when I went on the pill in 1999. I stopped taking the pill in April 2002 in hopes of getting pregnant. I had regular periods for two months and then things went haywire. During this time, we moved, so besides having crazy problems with my period, I also had a new OB/GYN. Anyway, he suggested losing weight and gave me some meds to start a period. Eventually, I did start having periods, but they were quite far apart, but each cycle was shorter. We were blessed to get pregnant in January 2003. In March 2003, we found out we were having twins. This was all done with no medical intervention except the meds to force a period. My pregnancy was highly uneventful. And, I am the mom of two wonderful girls!
In Dec 2005, I stopped taking the pill again hoping to get pregnant. Again, I had regular periods for two months and then nothing. Again, I had a different OB/GYN because we had moved AGAIN! This OB gave me meds to force a period and did tons of blood work. She thought again that my weight was the main problem. We tried a couple different meds to curb the appetite etc and I started to get more exercise. My weight went nowhere. I have one period after the one forced by the medication. Again, we move! So, I have a new OB/GYN. I have had one more period since I last saw a doctor. He gets a bunch of bloodwork and orders an ultrasound. All that comes back, and even though they didn't get a good look at my ovaries, he says I have PCOS. This means nothing to me.
My OB prescribes Metformin for me in mid-December. I have a weird period in early January (really light) and then a regular period in early Feb. I am hopeful that the Met has done the trick. My OB has also ordered a check of my progesterone levels. I got the call last week that my progesterone levels are WAY low. No way am I ovulating. And, sure enough, no period thus far in March. So, I start to take this PCOS thing seriously. I am seeing a nutritionist, signed up for Weight Watchers online, and trying to exercise every day. I would really like to have another baby, but I also think being healthy is a main goal now too. My OB/GYN says my next step is to take Clomid. I am reluctant since I already have twins.
So, I guess I am looking for information mostly. I am so glad that a mom on another message board told me about you guys.
Welcome to SC!!! Sounds like you are on a good track, and hopefully you can find some answers. Folks here are really nice, and VERY knowledable. Welcome aboard!
