Unhappy NHS and Lap questions

Hi Ladies,

I know this most probably depends on the area you are in, but I was wondering if anyone knows how long it would take for an NHS appointment.
I am seeing an RE privately now, which up to now was covered by my insurance because it was all PCOS related issues. I am going for a follicle tracking this cycle, which I have to pay for privately. Depending on the outcome of this, if I don't get preg by June/July, the RE has suggested that I need a Lap and dye, and then ovarian drilling.
I read the insurance (BUPA) leaflet, and it mentions that if both me and dh have been covered by BUPA for at least 2yrs, they would cover the infertility investigations to some extent. But unfortunatey dh is not covered by BUPA, which means I have to pay for LAP & Ovarian drilling.
Firstly does anyone know how much these procedures cost?
Secondly if I decide now to go NHS, can I use the same RE. She is not at my local hospital?!!
And how long would the appointment take.
Can anyone help please?

I had a lap and ovarian drilling at the BUPA hospital in Oxford and it cost about £1500. You could phone your nearest BUPA hospital and ask them how much. They do packages that cover the whole thing even if there are problems (if you have to stay overnight and you havn't got the package deal it could cost more)

I had my lap and ovarian drilling paid for by BUPA .. my Ob put on the form that he was treating me for amenhorrea (no periods) and they agreed to pay.

When my Ob retired from private practice, he himself referred me over to his NHS practice. I had been seeing him every 3 months privately, and my first NHS appt was 3 months after I ahd last seen him privately.

Why not get the referral to the NHS done now? If it turns out you don't need the appt, you can always cancel it.

In theory, under NHS guidelines, you can be referred to any consultant, regardless of where you live.

Thanks for your replies ladies, it was really helpfull.
I am going on Tuesday for my first follicle tracking scan, and will ask them how much it costs there for Lap & drilling.
This RE is quite strict, and I don't think she will agree to give another reason for Lap & drilling, which if she did would have been a real blessing.

Thanks again for all your replies.
