I never saw the Man in The Moon.
It just hung in the sky,
a round yellow eye
but never a face did I see
looking back at me.
I never saw the Man in The Moon.
Imagination I never lacked,
but never saw Him looking back
just a circle of blue....
....until I had you.
I saw the Man In The Moon
late one night out under the stars
when we brought you home, made you ours.
Eyes open wide to see it true.
Couldn't see Him, until I had you.
I wrote this for Spencer. I'd go out on the porch late at night with the baby monitor, listening for him to cry. The night sky was really all I had to look at, and the night we brought Spencer home was the FIRST TIME in my life I'd ever actually seen the "face" that was on the Moon. Even as a kid I just couldn't see it.
I never understood constelations either. I could find the Big Dipper and that was about it. Soon after Spence was home, again, out late on the porch waiting to go to bed, I saw a grouping of stars that looked like a butterfly. I found it fitting, as if Spencer's 2 siblings I'd lost were welcoming him home. I have two butterfly tattoos for the babies I lost. It was later that I learned the grouping that was my "butterfly" was the belt and body of the constelation Orion. Since then I've been able to locate much much more.
So I guess you could say my dear son gave me The Moon and The Stars.
