Default Nightsweats! Cant Sleep

Has anyone been getting hot flashes at night!? For the past week or so on and off I 've woken up really hot sweating and have to open a window or throw the blankets off of me. Then I get really cold so I have to get up and close the window and put the covers back on.. Aye..... I am getting aggrivated.. I ended my last pill of prometrium like 3 weeks ago and just started a very light dark period.. I wonder if this has anything to do with it..

I get them too! I do notice it more if I've had sweets in the evening. Also notice it more around when I'm having or getting ready to start my period.

I get it too! My estrogen levels were low when checked recently, I am guessing that's why. The flashes used to also come in the day randomly, but usually triggered by stress at work. Not so much anymore with progesterone cream, but still come at night occasionally.

Here's something to try -- keep a couple crackers next to your bed and when you wake up with the hot flashes eat about four of the crackers and give it 15 minutes.

If the hot flashes go away when you have some crackers then it's a pretty good bet that the hot flash is caused by your blood glucose going too low in the middle of the night. If the crackers don't help then all you've wasted is a few crackers in the middle of the night!

Some say its your glucose levels
Some say its Low Estrogen.

When I was at my fattest 79ks 5 foot 8 - I had a flash thing.. I am sure it was because I was overweight and estrogen went down.. now that I've lost about 7 kgs.. I don't get the flashes anymore....

I think its more hormonal to do with either estrogen or progesterone and what PCoS does than glucose but could be wrong.
I'm on metformin now and trying to eat Low GI but its hard whilst doing Grave/night shift. The naughty things are so quick and easy.

I can't say what it might be for other women.
I do know that for me, because I've tested and know my body AND because I'm diabetic (which many of you aren't) that when this happens to me it's my blood glucose going too low.

But like I said, an easy way to test whether or not it's YOUR blood glucose causing you night sweats (by you I mean anyone reading this having night sweats) is to have about 15g of simple, refined carbs when you wake up. Test it for three nights, because one night does not make a pattern. If you eat four crackers and within 15 minutes your night sweat is over and you feel fine, and this works for more than one night, then I would strongly suggest asking your doctor for an oral glucose tolerance test.

If it doesn't work then you know to look at your estrogen levels or whatever else might be causing it.
It's about as cheap a test as you could ever take! lol

I get them too sometimes. They have been so bad that some nights I will actually have to get up and change the sheets they are so wet with sweat. A few weeks ago I had hot flashes during the day so bad that I wore a short sleeved shirt and it was around 46 degrees! Needless to say, I got some strange looks.

I get those too-- but I never noticed until reading this thread that it normally occurs right before my TOM! I just finished my cycle and last week I woke up 3 days in a row from night sweats! Hmmm... interesting.

I have them lots of nights and always at 4 am. I think its from falling estrogen when it happens at the end of your cycle. Up to 10 - 15 years before menopause, most women start having peri-menopausal symptoms. Night sweats are a very common symptom.

If I forget to take my Met for a few days then my hot flashes return. I can't sleep the entire night...it's horrible. I take Met just for this reason. You might also want to try some OTC stuff (Estroven?).
